A 14-year-old girl faces a felony charge after throwing a bag of pretzels at a police sergeant and twice throwing a shoe at an officer, according to a recently released police report.
Beth Maynard, the alleged pretzel-and-shoe thrower, was one of several patients at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute who officers were watching Thursday night. It was not clear on Monday why she was in the hospital.
Maynard walked around "with an attitude" and told an officer to stop looking at her or she'd hit him with her shoe, the police report stated. The officer asked her to have a seat and relax.
"Shut the (expletive) up, I'm not sitting down," the report quotes Maynard as saying.
Maynard continued walking around and giving the officer "dirty looks" before eventually throwing her shoe at the officer two times, hitting him in the foot, the report states.
After a sergeant arrived, Maynard, of Port St. Lucie, threw a bag of pretzels that hit him in the chest, the report states.
The girl faces a felony battery on an officer charge.
Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, while customarily not naming juveniles accused of crimes, does name some juveniles depending on the seriousness of the crime, their age, aggravating circumstances and other factors.
Wow. She sounds like a little jerk. She shouldn't have been up walking around if she was in the hospital. hopefulyl she will learn her lesson now. I don't know what kind of punishment she will receive, but she deserves one.
