Hostas

Wow! I transplanted my hostas last year and they are coming back. They were planted all together and last year they looked like they were suffocating. So, I spread them out all over my flower beds and so far, they all seem to be liking their new homes. For you advanced gardener's, keep in mind this is all new to me, so everything is Wow! This will be my second year to learn all about the plants and flowers. I am so thankful to my Gather friends who are helping me along the way.

I hope tonight's freeze doesn't get them. They are very hearty, so I should be OK. I love the foliage on these plants.

I had them for years until something (slugs?) started eating them. I tried all of the remedies and finally had to get rid of them. I love hostas for the variety and simplistic beauty.

I think they will be just fine. I used to have these all along my patio and porch years back. The bumble bees loved the purple flowers!

They look pretty. I have no idea how to transplant and I wish I knew how to take a plant that is growing bigger and cut it to start a new one.

Alex, When you cut the hostas back at the end of the season, just dig up the root ball, separate it and plant it where you want it. It was easier than I thought.

We did the same thing with our Peonies last year. We had 2 big "bushes". We thinned them out and now we have at least 13 plants around our veggie gardens. Can't wait until they bloom this year. They're gorgeous! Good luck with your Hostas! :)

All of my Hosta plants disappeared. I've never had any issues before and I had some really beautiful varieties. I can't imagine what happened to them. Your's looks great but it looks like it can be divided a bunch more.

Yea, I think you are right, I am still learning, so next year, I will have even more!
Hosta's are wonderful plants. In a few more years you can divide the ones you just planted - it's like getting free plants!

Carol, hostas are beautiful. We have a stand of them and from time to time it's very good to split them. So far we haven't been able to kill any of them. Hope you continue to enjoy them. If the freeze gets the leaves, they'll grow back, at least they do for us.

The slugs I'm thinking would be to conditions being too wet. They love shade I know, wet and shade will give problems like that, but I found them to thrive on neglect and I never used as much care as you had in splitting them, yet every year I delighted in new hosta gardens becoming lush and blooming for me. Never got old to me I can tell you, every spring I'd squeal with delight, enjoy!!! =~>

I have different kinds of hostas everywhere and have shared them for years. A good, hearty plant.

Pat, When we moved in our house, they wee planted all along the front of the house, in a row, they got so cowded, I had to transplant them.
