That's not pathetic at all!!! Walker and I love our Crockpot. I made a video of him opening it on Christmas morning, and he was sooooooo excited! I think I posted the video here on Gather somewhere.

We make beef stew, pork stew, and chili for regular meals. We also use it for my chili cheese dip, and whole boneless hams at the holidays.

You'd be surprised the types of things that you can make in a crockpot...desserts, breads, etc. While I've never made any of those kinds of dishes (not a big sweets or carb person) I do use it frequently to cook large amounts of beans or chicken for deboning. Chili is another favorite, since it can cook on low all day and just needs a sprinkle of cheese and maybe some sour cream after ladling it into a bowl 10 minutes after I walk in the door.
One thing--don't cook boneless skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot all day--the shortest setting possible if the dish you are preparing absolutely has to be made with them. They get tough otherwise. I will cook a whole hen for the broth and to debone the meat for chicken and dumplings or a large bag of leg quarters for large amounts of dark meat for soup or chicken salad or maybe chicken pot pie filling.

I use my crockpot for all kinds of things...my son makes a couple of items in it also. Have fun!! Try new recipies.

congrats! I LOVE my crockpot. If you want to make chicken that tastes just like the yummy rotesserie chicken you can buy at the story, here's how to do it. SO easy! Just put your chicken in the crockpot. (I always remove the skin). You can either use a whole chicken or your choice of chicken pieces. Sprinkle generously with Lemon-Pepper Seasoning and some Seasoning Salt. Sprinkle paprika on top of that. Cover and let cook for 8 hours or so on Low until done. The flavor goes all through the chicken. It is delicious and makes yummy sandwiches too!

Mine broke years ago and you reminded me I want to get another one. Congrats on your new crockpot :)

The only thing I asked for last Christmas was a crockpot. I got a 5-quart one that's almost in constant use. I can make meals that will last the two of us for several days for about $5CAD. I make a fabulous pea or lentil soup and a chili that will have you beating down my door. I also made Thai meatballs with peanut sauce. I plan on doing a meatloaf one of these days.

I was excited when I got one too!

I have noticed just in the couple of meals that I have made in it since I got it, that I am able to make good hearty meals for really cheap and since it's the two of us the food last a good long time.
