Can you identify this bush?

This tree started blooming for the first time this year. I have no idea what it is. Can someone identify the tree? The purple blooms have a sweet fragrance. I have four in the yard, they were planted when we bought the house. Two big ones and two small ones.

It certainly does look like a lilac bush. I love lilacs, but the fragrance doesn't agree with my allergies.

They're lilacs. One of my favorites!
Yep, those are lilacs. Very fragrant, if it's an older bush. Newer hybrids don't smell as nice.

Looks like a lilac to me. Do the blooms smell nice? The older bushes smell the best. Mine are just getting it's blooms. Hope we don't get snow and kill them.

By the way, if your want your lilac to really produce beautiful. Put some peat moss around it or give it some miracid. It is for acid loving plants and bushes. I add to mine every season and they are beautiful.

Oh, you are so lucky!!! Indeed, it is the most wonderful Lilac, and my favorite shade, enjoy it, it can only proliferate!!!!

There are a lot of lilac varieties. This is most certainly a lilac.

Thank you all so much. I was told to sprinkle Epsom salt around all my plants, shrubs and trees every 6 months. It's suppose to help the soil with all the minerals.

Should I still add the miracid... JF ? And yes, they smell so sweet.

Carol, looks like you've got the answer! JF has good advice. (Sorry, I don't know about the Epsom salts). If the soil is more alkaline, the bush won't flower or not much.
