It's Too Late for an April Fool's Joke!

I picked up my fresh veggies and herbs from the CSA (Community Supported Ag farm)this afternoon.  Everything was wonderful!  This week I chose organic brown rice, 2 large bundles of young carrots, 2 bundles of oregano, a large bag of micro salad, a dill plant, and a bundle of young sweet onions.  Everything looked great, smelled great... and I was hungry!

Unable to wait until I could get home and unwilling to pull over and dig through the bag, I felt around in the bag until I felt the tops of the onions and I pulled a sweet onion from the bundle.  Half paying attention to my driving and half to my snack, I stuck the onion in my water bottle (just a few sips left and I wanted the sweet onion more than my water!), swished it around to clean it, they popped the bulb and lower greens in my mouth.  One bite and YIKES! 

My mouth was instantly on fire!  It wasn't an onion at all!  Imagine my surprise when I realized it was a baby head of garlic!!!  And believe me... it was potent!!!  I downed the last few sips of water... dirt specs and all... I was dying!  Then it happened... I started laughing... laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face.  I had to pull over to the side of the road because I couldn't see.  I'm not sure if I was crying so hard because my mouth was lit up or because I was laughing so crazily... but it was coming down in buckets!

It took a bit to regain my wits, but I eventually made it home.  Hubby could smell the garlic on my breath as I walked through the door.  I had tried to regain some of my sense of taste and mask the smell with a stick of Big Red... but obviously, it didn't work!  When I told him what happened, we started laughing again.  Best laugh we've had all week!

As for the rest of the bundle... I took those out to the yard and planted them in a container.  Hopefully they will catch back and continue to grow.  If not, I know where I can get more!
