Well today is the big day.
My son is going to see his biological father for the first time in about 5 years. He hasn't been with his dad alone since he was 2 and Alex will turn 8 in a few months and the last time he saw him it was during an 'observation' visit at our parenting study. The counselor who was doing our parenting study wanted to observe his dad's parenting skills with Alex and that was when Alex was a little over 3 years old. That was the last time they were together.
So today at 11:30 the visit starts. I bring Alex in to the building at one end and Ray comes in the other. The Building Blocks staff takes Alex back to one of their playrooms and Ray will be waiting for him there. Everything is monitored and recorded... in fact there can't even be any whispering. Alex is really excited about meeting his dad, which is promising, but I'm so worried about everything. This first visit will last just an hour long but the next visits will be 2 hours each - they'll happen every weekend.
So ... please send good thoughts our way. This is a HUGE event for us... something that we never thought we'd have to do since it seemed like Ray was out of our lives forever.
:o)

I wish I could work something out for my grandson - but his mother refuses.
As long as the dad owes child support she refuses visitation.
They too, live only 15 minutes apart.
They have not seen each other for about 5 years... my grandson is 14.
He has so much rage built up against his mother, but she can't see it.
Her words are always "your dad is a no good loser deadbeat and you're going to grow up to be just like him."
And then she wonders why this super intelligent child gets Fs on his report card. Yes his dad dropped out in the 9th grade. But people make mistakes - we shouldn't keep emphasizing them and using them for our own selfish means.
I pray daily. I have my grandson for Spring Break, you don't know how hard it is to keep my nose out and not do something that could cause big problems with my dauther. Some days I am so torn.
I have court in a couple of weeks and not looking forward to it.
