There are many out there who claim they understand the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. There are few out there that really do. The situation falls under the old adage, "The more you think you know, the less you understand." However, in a recent article by Rob Eshman, I found a brief description of the conflict that sums it all up pretty well.
"There are two sides in the Middle East conflict: Jews and Arabs who want compromise, and Jews and Arabs who want to demonize and eradicate their neighbors."
This is an important summation because it allows for fault on both sides. A lot of people like to argue one side or the other, which really gets nowhere. This is one area of the world where the gray area might be bigger than everything else in black and white.
So, remember, the next time someone says we need to support Israel wholeheartedly, and you want to respond with, "They're a bunch of murdering jack-a-ninnies," just take a step back and think about Eshman's quote. Or, on the other side, the next time someone says the Palestinians are just trying to defend themselves and you want to respond with, "All Palestinians are implicit with terrorism and they all suck," just remember that both sides have good people.
Peace.

That said, I think this is a pretty good summary now of what is going on...
