My daughters high school softball team desperately needs new gear. Tonight my daughter and her teammates went on a bus ride to tonights game. The girls sitting on the bus all excited and ready to play. The fact that they are wearing 20 year old uniforms did not get them down. They were hype and ready. After arriving to the field they decided to do some warm ups. While warming up my daughter was hit in the face wirth a softball. She suffered a laceration above her eye, hurt pride, and broken glasses. She passed out after seeing the gushing blood. She was then taken by ambulance to the local emergency room. It was an hour drive by ambulance.
Sad thing is if the team could afford equipment then this would not have happened. The girls all had to buy their own gloves, and bats, and softballs. The school doesn't have protective equipment, proper uniforms, or gear for these girls. The local schools are facing closing so they definetly do not have money in the budget for softball gear. They want to be able to keep the sports at the school but they just can not afford to provide the supplies. These girls on the team are a smart motivated bunch of girls. Instead of running the streets and getting into trouble they are on the field playing ball.
A lot of the girls on the team volunteer at the local boys and girls club and elementary school. They tutor younger students and assist them with their school work. These are honestly a great bunch of girls and I would really like to help them out.
Does anyone out there know of a local school or church that will be getting new gear and possibly getting rid of the old? Does anyone out there know of a screeners that will help them to get uniforms? Does anyone out there want to help? Does anyone have any old equipment they no longer need?
These girls need ..
Protective gear
Gloves/ Mitts
Bats
Soft balls
Bases
Uniforms
If your in a position to help these girls I know they would be ever so greatful! The uniforms they have literally have holes in them from moths and wear. They don't even match.
I would love to do so much more for them but I just lost my job a few weeks ago. I just feel for these girls its one of the few things they have to look forward to and they may lose it because they don't want people to get hurt but they can't afford the equipment.

My senior yr in high school, we raised enough funds to buy ourselves new uniforms, warm up suits, and sweatshirts. I think we went around for 6 weeks, a few hours a Saturday collecting and turning in cans. My son currently does this here and he makes a bit of spending money. The neighbors are always willing to donate cans to him.
I remember playing softball in school.. we never had any protective gear that could have prevented us from getting hit by a ball. Do people wear face masks these days?
Also, we always provided our own gloves/mitts, batting gloves, cleats, shinguards, bats, etc. Those are very "personal" items and would be difficult to stock in enough sizes/weights to accommodate a changing team player list.
I agree with the previous commenters on ways to earn money. You may even try writing letters to colleges and universities that have softball programs to see what happens to their old equipment. Can you work a deal for free advertisement from a local "Play It Again Sports" or screener? We have had screeners offer free shirts if they could put their logo on the sleeve.
I am also going to talk to some of the sporting goods stores.
Growing up my best friends dad was a screener. Her family owned the bussiness. I was going to pay a visit to the screener on monday and see if the family still owns it and see if we can work something out!
Wish me luck!
... oh and my daughter is the pitcher ..
How much it costs to purchase full gear for one player...??
We did all kinds of fundraisers to raise money for our softball team.
Car washes Always do great! As do bake sales!!
Find a local church willing to let you use their parking lot and hold something there right after church lets out!!
I wish your Team the best of luck!!
Or even try posting a "want" add.
Again good luck,
and btw.....
Thats going to leave one sweet shinner, way for your daughter to take one for the team!!! :)
