YIPPEE......ONE "HUMMER" IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!

This past Saturday my hubby asked me wasn't it about time for the hummingbirds to show up.  I went and pulled out my 2008 Daily Planner to check the date I first saw my hummers  last spring.  (Yes, I have every year of my Daily Planners and I write 'everything' down!)  I knew it was in April....sure enough, there is was noted on April 5th, 2008 my "first hummer sighting"!!!!!

Tuesday of this week was absolutely beautiful...... so 'springy' with the azaleas, dogwood  blooms and the birds singing so loudly.  I saw the first butterfly and lizard of the spring season.  I decided to make some 'juice' and hang up one of my hummingbird feeders just in case they decided to come early to my little corner of the world in South Carolina.

Today it's raining, temps in the lower 60's and I had the patio doors open for fresh air and listening to "nature's choir"!!  While on the phone with my sister, I looked up at the feeder and YES, there HE was............my first hummer of Spring 2009!!!!!

Okay...it's pouring rain and I'm looking through the screen door so I know these pictures are horrible but heck, I don't care............. a 'hummy' is back!!!!!!

Happy spring! Get ready for snow Saturday, Phyllis! It's supposed to be sunny and warm here.
And about those hummers...we see them all year-long here. I wonder where they went when it was cold for 2 weeks???

I love hummingbirds! In Sedona, I had a feeder up that attracted close to a dozen of them. One year a family built a nest on top of one of my wind chimes (the nest was the size of a walnut half) and had two chicks in about a month.

wow - I love this description - I can see you looking out the back door of your patio and seeing those gorgeous honey birds as mama used to call them!!! it makes sense doesn't it! its so exciting to be watching spring emerge under the wings of lovely birds! Thanks Sistah. This was lovely. Salud

Ellie = Our local weather guys are saying it is to be in the mid 30's Wednesday morning of next week....................I hate it!!!! :O) I do hope it stays sunny and warm for you, at least you might be able to find you car!!!! LOL

Walker = I would so love to see a hummingbird nest!!! The size of a walnut half.....I just can't imagine that!!!!!

Bridget = I've been seeing the blizzards in your area.........hope spring comes to you real soon!!!

Sistah Luv = I sat at the back door for 45 minutes waiting for him to come back!! I've seen him about a dozen times in the past hour but it took him forever to come back since I was waiting for him!! LOL "Honey birds".....I love it and YES it makes sense!!!

I love these awesome little creatures. When we lived in the country we always had them around our house. They were so cute. We had the feeders in our big bay kitchen windows, and when they couldn't see us in the kitchen they would fly around to the living windows and flutter for our attention, until we went back to the kitchen. We would always have to watch when we'd walk out the back door, as they had a race track around our home. Many times I'd go out the door and would have to dodge them! lol
We now live in an area closer to a town. I have my feeders and plan on putting them up towards the end of April, but I don't know if they will find it or not. Will really disappoint me for sure if they don't.

very neat...my neighbor and I were discussing how we haven't seen any hummers here at all yet....only the big, noisy birds.

I like hummingbirds. We may get snow on Tuesday. yuck!! I want summer. The hummer sighting is a good sign though.

The hummingbirds won't be at our house for a few weeks. I was pleasantly shocked as we drove south towards Florida to see dogwoods and redbuds in full bloom. Alabama is about three weeks ahead of Missouri. I want spring at home!

We are talking warm and sunny on Saturday...and 70 on Sunday. Want me to overnight you my shoe chains? I don't think I will need them to walk over the hill to my car. It will be in the garage...haahhahah...
It keeps happening. West Coast has good weather...you have bad...and vice-versa.
Maybe we need to meet in Hawaii or the Caymans?

They are coming to see me already, but guess who hasnt put anything out for them?
They always hang around anyway. They love my red curtains for some reason and keep coming to the windows. Its more interesting when the food is there . I see so many different colors, I thought they were all just grey, but I have some interesting color markings on mine.

Charles ask me yesterday when I was going to hang my feeders up and I told him Sunday.It's going to be in the 30's so Sunday will be the best day.The pictures are nice too.

I had a friend in the flyway on the Oregon Coast who used to get them in dozens. He said they fought like cats and dogs over the feeder.

I haven't see one yet, but I may just have missed it - they come to the back porch and I've been sitting in the sun in front.
