Selling on Ebay-- what do I need to know?

i sold a couple xbox 360s on there back in the day. i really dont know much about it though

There is quite a LOT that you should know, actually... Really depends on what your experience with Ebay already is.

I highly suggest going to the Seller's Central Forum on Ebay... Do some reading, ask some questions. If you look at the top of the Ebay homepage, there is a link "Community". Click on that then click on Discussion Boards, then click on Seller's Central.

Before you post to Seller's Central though, it's advisable to use an ID different than the one you intend to sell under. If you don't have a separate ID for Selling/Buying, that's going to be my first recommendation.

If you buy from a Seller and you tick them off somehow.. even if no fault of your own, then that Seller can buy from you in retaliation, and purposely give you negative feedback to get you back... They don't even have to leave negative feedback anymore to hurt you, all they have to do is ding your stars, which you can do nothing about.

Anyway, I'm rambling... If you have a separate selling ID, don't use that to post on Seller's Central with... Same reason as above.. There have been problems in the past with someone ticking off someone on the boards and that person causing them problems.

If all you have is a ID to Buy/Sell with, start a new ID with a new e-mail. You can do that.

I have 2 books and an ebay kit, and I have not looked at either of them...lol...my friend in So Cal, makes about 2 grand a month selling stuff on ebay...She goes to TJMAX and buys designer sheets for like 20.00 and then sells them on ebay for like $120.00..WT???...I can't believe it. She says you just have to know what to sell, research what others are selling and how much..Good luck with it

I used to sell my soaps on eBay and even had an eBay store, but I found it more hassle than it was worth and was losing money. Now I only sell on Etsy. The main issue I had with eBay was people always wanted a good deal and wanting it cheaper than listed when I was already selling it at the cheapest possible with very little profit margin. I just did not feel appreciated and I hear that a lot from people selling on there with stuff they make. I do, however, see your issue with Etsy, as people on Etsy while do appreciate the handmade stuff and do not try to haggle for cheap they also do not seem to buy the expensive stuff.

You'll need a credit card to open an account. You can also set up to receive paypal. Look around a lot, see whats going on, compare with what you have. Calculate your shipping wisely, is expensive. Try to have fun, but it can be work.

DON'T PLAN ON SELLING ON EBAY

I stopped selling art on eBay because of many reasons. For one, there are sooooo many art pieces, a lot of them bad, that my pieces get buried. And, the fees are so high for something that usually has to be listed several times before making a sale. Sure, you can buy a "featured" spot, but it's not worth it.

I also don't feel that any of the artwork I've sold there was sold at the price it was actually worth.

Have you tried Art By Us? You can list things for free there. However, they don't have the traffic that eBay has. But, you won't be losing anything. The only issue that I have is that I can't seem to be able to use their forums.

I currently have this antique chess trophy on ebay. My efforts to see are usually all over the place - some high and some low. The important thing to do is read the instructions carefully, then do everything possible to keep the buyer happy.
