The Hawk Cafeteria

While out walking yesterday, I cut through the woods in the back end of Morton Park. I was walking up the path when wings passed over me, and when I looked up I saw a juvenile Redtailed Hawk carrying his lunch (a mouse).

Great capture of the Hawk and his prey.
The sympathetic part of my brain did "the poor mouse". The realistic part of my brain said ooooh cool shots.

He is a magnificent bird.

I love it when when red tailed hawks spread their tails and I can be sure their them. I'm not much of a birder.

I admire the ability to identify birds as I'm not much of a birder myself, either. The only time I knew for sure what I'd seen was when I got a very close look at the underside of a golden eagle that cleared my windshield by inches.
