The thread of generosity is woven --- completely and inextricably --- into the fabric of Christ's teachings. As he sent his disciples out to heal the sick and spread God's message of salvation, Jesus offered this guiding principle : Freely you received, freely give. The principle still applies. If we are to be disciples of Christ, we must give freely give of our time, our possessions, and our love.
Today, make the pledge and keep it : Be a cheerful, generous, courageous giver. The world needs help, and you need the spiritual rewards that will be yours when you share your possessions, your talents, and your time.
Let us pray :
Dear Lord,
Your word tells me that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Make me a faithful steward of gifts you have given me, and let me share those gifts generously with others, today and every day that I live.
Amen.
