Cherry Blossom in Washington DC

I always enjoy walking around the National Mall in a sunny spring afternoon. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival kicked off last Saturday and the flowers are at peak this week. I took some photos to share. 

For some reason, many traffic lights were not working. As a result, cars and pedestrians looked at each other and guessed possible movements and hesitated and proceeded with caution. Thus I didn't venture to the Tidal Basin area which is the most popular sight for cherry blossom. Maybe later I will share some photos I took last year.

Oh that was beautiful! I was there in february - but no blossoms yet = just COLD!!

Beautiful! I'm glad to see that there are cherry trees left in Washington. A few years back a whole bunch were cut down in full bloom for one bureaucratic reason or another - idiots!

Jan... the blossom only lasts about ten days in late March/early April.
This year has been cold indeed. Yesterday was gorgeous and today is rainy and cold again. :(

Great photos. For some reason I've never gone to DC to see the cherry blossoms (and I don't live that far away). Of course, I've also never gone to see the second largest display of cherry blossoms here in Newark. Maybe if I get a job down around DC I'll get to see it for once.

Paul, there is cherry blossom festival here in DC as well, but must be different from those in Japan. Wish I could see it there someday.
