I've always been one of those moms who made birthday cakes to match the theme of the party, every single year! I ALWAYS make their cakes, I NEVER buy them. It's something I have fun with and enjoy doing.
I'm a little OCD when it comes to my kids parties. I do matching tableware, matching goodie bags, matching cake, matching food, matching activities/crafts/games, etc. It's all about the theme of the party and I have a blast doing it!
Well, this year it didn't turn out that way for Chandler's 8th birthday.
He was habing a bowling party but he wanted a hockey cake! Don't ask me why, other than the fact that's he's almost obsessed with hockey! LOL! It was SO hard for me to tell him yes, I wanted to make a bowling cake!
I had to remember it was HIS party though and he wanted a hockey cake, so...
It put a smile on his face and I couldn't ask for anything more than that!

I to have cakes to go with the birthday theme fr my kids.
Seriously good cake decorating skills. I can sometimes pipe a rosette. I once tried to make roses and they turned out to be. . .well I'm not really sure how to describe them other than not remotely rose like.
And I'm pretty creative, so Ill use whatever ideas theywant in their party, and make something out of nothing :)
And it looks like a great cake!
