This is a short essay with spectacular photos of my husband's recent trip to Italy.
A repost. Since the weather is miserable, you will enjoy these lovely photos.
Alas, I did not go, but the photos are very enjoyable.
(I have been to Italy, near Turino, 10 years ago, when I had a business trip to Geneva and brought the family along for a quick, one-week stay in Geneva, Bern and Annecy, with a quick side trip to Mount Blanc and Monte Cervinia (the Italian side of Zermatt and the Matterhorn).)
More VENICE and Riccione - part 2 of 3
The STUNNING photos of the Castle of San Marino - tiny landlocked country surrounded by Italy

One of the islands on the lagoon, heading toward Venezia - Venice.
My husband went to Italy in the summer of 07 for a two-week international track & field competition. He sprints and does the long jump and triple jump.
The competition was in Riccioni, but he and his track mates took a one-day trip to Venice.
Part 1 of 3.

Nearly in Venice. The water is such a beautiful color.

The color of the water nicely complements the brightly colored houses.

This is a Gondola lagoon, where tourists can board Gondolas.

One of many small bridges along Venezia's miles of canals.

A restaurant along a canal.

The beauty one sees as the Gondola glides down the canals.

These photos are so restful to look at - the clarity of the water, the earthen tones of the houses, the bright colors of the passengers and the Gondolier.

A refreshing sip of mineral water as the Gondola passes under a bridge.

Some of the canals are very narrow, as you see here.

A broad canal. For some reason, this photo brings to mind a small fleet of very small pirate ships.

The Rialto bridge

More canals in Venezia. The water looks so inviting, doesn't it?

A close up.

Assicurazioni Generali.

Such beauty.

Passing through a narrow canal

And the day's journey to Venezia is nearly done.
The second part is Riccione and San Marino, to be posted soon.

I miss Italy. Haven't been there in over 20 years.......
I WANNNNNA Go TOOOO
I often wondered if the houses and damp and smell damp though
BTW, the triple jump looks very difficult, one must be nimble AND coordinated.
He is a track athlete = fast twitch muscles - I love endurance. Slow twitch muscles. Distance not sprints.
This is a very colorful essay.
lost ego
Beautiful photos.

your line: "the momentary pet of the lady sopranos who favored creatures as silken beautiful as the voice that flowed from their throats."
We stayed on a sheep farm one night; it was fun, but 300 BLEATING bleeping lambkins kept us awake most of the night.
These photos are just stunning. Thank you!
I love the trip through your eyes.
