I honestly never liked this song and don't really care for any version including those that I did not post but if I have to pick I will go with Everclear.

The number 867-5309 is now being put back into circulation, I remember that phone companies banned the number because of prank phone calls. Now I can image people getting prank phone calls again

Like you Chris, I never really liked this song either. Maybe because it got so much airplay or it was just annoying to begin with. I would have to go with the original if I had to pick.

actually a local business has this number...its Benjamin Franklin plumbing... yeah. they even kinda use the song in their commercials. i will have to go with everclear just for nostalgia's sake. i grew up with them

It's funny...we were actually just listening to this song the other day....came out sometime in the 80's...LOL....but it was by neither of these groups....it was someone else. I'll have to find out in the morning.
