I am trying this again since the last three atempts got me an error message. So I am trying a whole new article !
This morning as I looked out my front window into the church parking lot. I notice a lot of activity. A group of quail fighting amongst themselves. This time of year that can only mean one thing. Breeding season.
A male California Quail

I know this next shot is suppose to represent the call of the wild and all, but to me. Well I can't help but think Three Stooges.

There she is, the cause of all the trouble. A female, she's the one eating.

They are starting to cross the street and enter my yard.

Not the best picture but doesn't this guy look smug ?

Here is a shot of a happy couple in my back yard.

Here she is doing what any lady tired of all the unwanted attention would do she is leaving.

This guy is hiding from me, or so he thinks, always cracks me up when they think they can hide behind a limb.

Here is a brave soul. He's not afraid of that huge creatue with the one funny eye.

Some of the quail are starting to get along now.

The female even returns. She seems to perfer this one male.

The other males are keeping the distance now.

Settling in under my flowering plum. Time for a break from spring break or in their case spring breeding.

That was until those pesky Jack Russel Terriers who live here wanted out. For now they are in my neighbors yard.

Very cool essay, thanks.
they almost sound like they are saying Chi-ca-go, chi-ca-go or is it O-hi-o, O-hi-o or where-are-you the accent on the second note. The boring field guide says it's ka-ka-kow.
It is spelled Gambel's quail John
