I'm sorry folks I'm having a little bit of trouble with this one, I don't feel that it is within Obama's power to ask a person to step down, regardless of bailout loans or not. I think he should have been 'asked' to resign, but not forced. And if they are asking him to resign it should be do or else.
Am I being overly critical because I think this should be a company decision? I think, my personal opinion, is that Obama overstepped his bounds of power as the president.
I think if the company wanted him out, it should have been the company or the board that voted him out, Not Obama.
And who gets to choose the replacement? and I pray to God you don't say obama!

Besides, I've always felt we all have the right to ask whatever we want. The other party always has the right to say "no."
The CEO is NOT the problem, the UNION is....
But of course the messiah won't go after them because they have a lot to do with how he got elected.
If they got rid of the union and told the employees "you work for $X amount per hour and PAY for your healthcare like everyone else has to, or leave,"
they'd have a lot of people stay....
and for those who didn't, I guarantee you'd have tons more lining up to fill those jobs immediately.
There used to be a time when unions were needed, before there was adequate protection for workers, but that time is long gone. Now all the union does is suck the life and money out of companies.
Joy I must respectfully disagree with your statement, "The CEO is NOT the problem, the UNION is.... "
It wasn't the UNION that approved the roll out of gas guzzling monstrosities such as the HUMMER.
It wasn't the UNION that fought tooth and nail against developing gas efficient automobiles in the image of Honda, Toyota, KIA, Suzuki or Hyundai.
It wasn't the UNION that decided that the Saturn division of GM wasn't worthy of support, thus reducing their funding and eventually the brand.
It was the incompetent CEO and all of his privileged cronies making these company killing decisions.
Now that GM has accepted bailout money, the American taxpayer has a stake in the well being and success of the company.
It's now time for CHANGE at what was once the world's most successful company.
Now maybe we can recruit someone with true vision to head GM before it goes the way of American Motors, Edsel or the many other American auto makers that no longer exist.
Why do you condone incompetency? And this "messiah" crap has got to stop.
I am proud to have a President who has the energy to deal with the many important issues facing the American people.
I am proud to have a President who can chew gum and walk at the same time.
As usual, those opposed to President Obama only react to his decisions without proposing any reasonable alternatives of their own.
My question to the opposition is this.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?
Thank you for posting this article to our group Barack Obama's Presidential Appointments, Bills and Policies
Your article is now a FEATURED one.
thank you for your response to this. While I appreciate what Obama is trying to do, I feel he should have gone to the board, and made a plea for the removal of the CEO. Yes the company is making and has been making bad decisions........
However, if Obama is going to do this, he needs to take a long hard look at the Unions and realize how they are also dragging the company down and deal with them as well.

1. It is Obama's fault that AIG people got paid bonuses. If we are going to give these people billions of dollars, Obama needs to make sure that tax payers money is being spent wisely and that those companies have a plan. Our money should not be used to pay for bonuses of people who brought their companies down.
2. Tax payers are going to give billions of dollars to GM and other auto makers. The government is going to give GM and Chrysler billions of dollars to back warranties on cars sold for example. It is not Obama's job to make sure that the people at the helm know what they are doing. Obama just needs to hand billions of dollars to GM and whether the CEO can deliver or not is none of his business. He has no right to ask this person to step down, EVEN IF HE BELIEVES THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PERSON. JUST HAND HIM TAX PAYERS MONEY.
Have a fifth grader at home?
Well said Terry. Obama is not asking FORD to do anything. HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO did we all forget that FORD is still running. How come the WHITE HOUSE never utters those four letters: F-O-R-D. Because they said they don't need a bailout.
TAKE THE TAX PAYERS MONEY and it will be the President's job and members of Congress to say whether the leadership at the company or even the board is right for the company. Want to remain private? Don't take the money.
While I am definitely (on average) a supporter of Obama, I disagree with his policies regarding the economy.
I think we should let all the companies and banks fail--no stimulus. Giving out money is not the way to punish greed.
