"Tell us about you - who are you right now? Why are you in this group and what do you hope to accomplish?"
I took part in the winter session and I'm here for another round - our spring fling:)
I'm happy to be here, because I'm simply not done yet, I still would like to lose twenty five pounds overall.
I didn't lose the ten pounds I had planned on during the winter session, but I managed five to seven pounds depending on how my scale, named Lyla during one of our exercises, feels that day.
Right now I'm still dragging my heels on the exercise, but I can tell you that I've gotten stronger and more energetic just by working out in my garden. Twenty five pound stones, heavy pots, bags of soil and mulch will do that to you:) Not to mention the fresh air and sunshine.
My current personal goals are to re-arrange our space so I have a comfortable space to exercise, maybe take up bike riding - used to love that, and find a way to walk daily.
So far my routines that I managed to stick with are to squeeze myself a fresh lemon each morning, I drink plenty of water, have increased my daily fruit intake and I do walk at least four times a week.
Food is not a significant problem. I'm a good cook, we eat "relatively" healthy - there is room for improvement:) We eat home cooked meals every night, no fast food or sodas for us. I've been on a mission to eat healthy even before I joined the group. We eat organic as much as possible and I grow my own herbs and tomatoes.
Shedding Light is really about shedding light on your inner self, weight issues come about when you lead an unbalanced lifestyle. I remember that Peter Walsh one of the clutter experts on TV once said that those of us who have clutter issues have weight issues too.
So I echo Mariana's and Stacey's sentiment in asking what is weighing you down? Weight is but a symptom of other issues, so in my case (among other issues) I feel if I continue to work on my paper tiger clutter issues it will lighten up my life and I can move forward.
Right now - I'm still stuck, so exercise and walking are a priority.
I feel I have bonded with the other sista sheds in the group and their input and support has made a great difference. I'm looking forward to the new challenges and it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds this time around.
I admit, I had to think about continuing, because I know it means commitment which is actually my word for 2009, I'm committing to making changes in my life this year.
You could call it a bucket list if you like, I turned 60 this year and I find that there are a few things in my life that could stand improvement, change or are simply goals I've let slide. You know those things where you always say, "One day I'd like to volunteer at a local charity" (one of my goals) and among other things I've decided to tackle the weight issue.
So between my own efforts and the inspiration from Mariana's Shedding Light group(ies) I hope to reach at least three of my goals by the end of the year.

I am excited to be a part of this and I wish you well in this session too.
I have been eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. The exercise for me is tough also. My goal is to do yoga at least three times a week. I am watching my nephew who is 16 months and he is a handful. So I am chasing him around all day.
Karen~
Thanks for all your good wishes - I appreciate your support!
piques my interest.
I struggle with clutter, but align that with my ADD tendencies. I am curious enough to want to investigate the idea further.
Did you say what you're doing to exercise today? :-) Here's an unsolicited piece of advice: what about posting your exercise goal of the day in your status update here at Gather each morning?
Maybe I'll try that. Accountability is a big key in lifestyle changes. Even if it's accountability only to me. Good luck with your goals today, Rose!
This is how I feel about goals - they are the "gonna do's" - I might set small ones such as I will get up in the morning and be grateful for all I have or I will take one box and organize it today.
I am not into goals so much as following a plan. In this case, it's all lined up for you.
If you state a goal and can't follow through then what? You feel disappointed. To me, follow the plan and then feel great for accomplishing that. It's simple and very doable.
The best thing is just to do the plan - the 30 minutes a day walk - do the inspirational haiku - poem - whatever comes from that - then if you do extra, great...but
you'll feel accomplished if you follow the plan.
I think you'll enjoy the Second Wave which I will post once everyone is on the same page. We have a couple of folks yet to post First Wave and understand the Creative Currents.
Regarding clutter - of course, it weighs us down or keeps us afloat - it's not all bad unless you keep focusing on it and it gets in your way. Then, ask yourself why you need that problem to deal with - I look at my organized clutter as worlds around me. Of course, I'm the keeper of the flames and all my "stuff" has meaning - if it's just papers then chop up and make collages or art projects - otherwise, buy the colorful boxes, or old trunks and put it all in, close the lid and say it's done - unless it's life or death - don't focus much on it...
ok enjoy wearing those dresses...so glad you're aboard, Rose H. You contributed a great deal last go around and we look forward to your inspiration this time around ! Salud
I'm not sure about the ADD there seem to be many forms of it.
Mariana - thanks for the welcome back. You know you say you are the keeper of the flames - I'd love to strike a match and watch it all go up on flames, except for one set of important papers.
As far as things, I no longer have the same attachments I used to have. I have learned that we can't take it with us and that there is almost nothing that can't be replaced in some way. Stuff in the end - means nothing!
I've never been a knick-knack kind of person, but I do enjoy aquiring certain things that give me pleasure.
Sometimes the freshness and the difference in the replacements of your treasures and the road you travel to replace your lost treasures opens up new doors and gives you the freedom to pursue new paths.
Yikes! Let's not get hung up on the words.
through the blender process...after all, who cares about some of that stuff - I know I have kept everyone of my dad's first wife's vintage cards from the early 1920's until 1990 but after that - who will look at them...
also, how many first drafts of my first book do I need to occupy space...I'm learning! Ok, I see a great wave coming up. Salud
So good to meet you Rose and those others who've obviously been around the block with the group last go round. What you've shared here rings nicely for me as well.
I'm a bit of a nut on sparse, yet I have "nests" of things, mostly potential art materials. Old good used clothes (second hand to begin with) to refashion or cut up for weaving. I'm keeping it pretty well leaned out.
After the kiddos sprung out there were a lot of costumes to winnow through and home school projects to add to their treasure boxes or pitch. Hard duty! But doing it really helped me to feel lighter about life in general. They seem to feel like I've given them special honor as well, (and I've got ROOM!)
Many good efforts here ladies and so nice to meet more of you.
Rose, very much looking forward to crossing paths again.

My mom just passed 60 a couple of years ago and dad just reached 70. They are both addressing the things they were "going to do" so I understand that. My parents are amazing me because they're going on adventures and buying stuff they never did before. It gives me hope I can break out of my own restraints :)
I do appreciate the accountability and motivation here. The past few days I had several minor crisis, including a major computer problem, that kept me off Gather. I could hear Mariana and the Sistahs Shed reminding me to drink water, walk, eat fruit, have oatmeal in the morning...it was great. It really keeps me going and helps me remain positive in a world full of distractions.
You're doing great Rose!! I can't wait to shed more light with you for spring!
