Kyleigh Is Still Coughing

Can you believe it?  Kyleigh is still suffering from congestions and coughing.  It must have been over 2 months since the first infection.  She has had 3 different antibiotics, a few different home remedies, and been to the doctors once every (other) week.  I am frustrated because they kept telling me it was common.  I thought it was due to the germs at the day care. But my mom has been here caring for her for over 2 weeks and Kyleigh has not recovered.

I am thinking she might have some kind of allergy.  I don't know if her regular doctor is not enough and we will have to take her to some kind of specialist to check this out or what.

I hate to tell you, but it's common. I was at the doctor with Angela every other week for months. She had ear infection after ear infection...and allergies to the medicines they gave her for the ear infections.

Now, I'd ask the doctor first, but there is a Children's chewable (grape flavor) Claritin. If Kyleigh has an allergy, the Claritin might clear it up. I'm actually currently buzzing Children's Claritin as one of my campaigns. I have some coupons left, if you're interested. I do think Kyleigh would take the medicine alright, as the grape flavor is quite good. It does work too, as I tried out the Children's Claritin and so have my kids.

I was really sick a few weeks ago and still have a cough. I don't know about where you live, but the crud was all over Tampa a few weeks ago. My grandson was really sick for a while.

is her doctor having you do breathing treatments? Those help with the congestion. And what antibiotics did they put her on? maybe they are not strong enough. Is it getting better and then coming back?If she is not any better and/or getting worse them i would take her back to doctors, immediate care or er.

On the "home" remedies: do you have a vaporizer? If not, get one and get some eucalyptis oil for the medical part--I do this to get rid of bronchitis(grandmother's cure) and its always helped.
OTOH, yep, its common--some of it is because of the immaturity of her system.

Food allergies and intolerances are very common, but sometimes hard to diagnose.You might try taking Kyleigh off dairy for awhile. Dairy can be mucus-forming ( can cause post-nasal drip and stuffy noses), which would "enhance" the effect of viruses and ear infections. And it's not healthy to take all those antibiotics; if Kyleigh needs them for life-threatening conditions in the futue, they might not work.

have they checked her sinuses, my daughter coughed for almost a year ended up having 4 sinus surgeries. Id take her to an ears nose and throat dr

I sure hope she feels better soon.
I find this time of year winter's last cold hangs on until later I'm told it's allergies.

What I think is this time a year we get sick with something that we don't build an immunity to once we have it.

Then there is all the people who go out sick, cough, touch everything and everyone else gets it.

I went to Red Lobster with a gift card this week.
Our waiter had stuff smeared all over and under his eyes.
I bet he had conjunctivitis - I will be so angery if we get it! He was touching his eyes and then our water glasses!

two months is way too long. They need to do more for her. If she were getting better and then getting re-exposed and sick again that would be different. I hope she gets better soon.

Thanks all for the tips and advice!

We do have a vaporizer but it doesn't seem to do any good. I hate to give her all those medicines too.

This sounds like our Kali -- she's had a 105 degree fever a bunch of times now. I told her dad to give her probiotics (acidophilus) because the Caesarian-birthed kids don't get all the necessary bacteria their immune systems need. You might want to check out that Mothering.com website as they take a more natural approach to health. Also I discovered one called WellBeingJournal.com which has a free newsletter. There are also a lot of great foods which help respiration, like onions, garlic, apples, and pineapple. I have asthma and I drink pineapple juice twice a day -- it has bromelain which is a very beneficial enzyme. Good luck and hope Kyleigh gets better soon!
