Cherished Love

I lay my head on your shoulders feeling the warmth of you beside me

My eyes close softly and I feel safe, warm and free.

Nestling my head into your chest, I feel you caress my hair

Giving me butterfly kisses on my cheek, you show how much you care.

Listening to your heartbeat I feel it matching mine.

I thank the Lord for sending me a man who is so kind.

I remember the first time I saw you after many years.

My stomach had butterflies when you came near.

You smiled and the sun broke through the clouds

And as the sun rose, the angels began to sing out loud

I realized then that God had sent me a gift from above

He sent me a special man to love.

The first few years weren't easy. They were filled with many tears

So many walls blocked our way, built with pain and fear.

But little by little cracks formed in the walls

And together, united, we allowed them to crumble and fall.

Now I lay beside you so thankful that you are here

Holding you close my eyes fill with tears

The love inside of me is so strong, almost more than I can bear

My heart feels as if it will burst with the love I feel inside, but I don't care

A love like this comes but once in a lifetime and it is not to be thrown away.
