{What Easter Is - part 2}
I DIED FOR YOU
© Robert C Burnham
The road I walked was marked with scorn
The crown I wore was made of thorn
I was alone as I climbed that hill
My disciples turned away, their voices still
I know your world is full of persecution
I know that life can seem so rough
But I arose from an execution
That against strife you may stand tough
I tried to teach you many things
But never promised that life was fair
Only that I will come again
And bring my judgement for all to share
You wonder why you face misfortune
I wish you would just remember me
I too endured heartache and pain
I knew no rich man's luxuries
On earth I was often tempted
By the Devil, just as you
I held to the faith of my Father
Allowing His grace to pull me through
I had a close friend
Who sold me out
And those who professed to know my Father
In me, presented only doubt
They scorned me and whipped me
Half disrobed in the public square
All Jerusalem mocked my Word
All Jerusalem shouted and sneered
Up lonely Calvary I was marched
Weighed down by a rugged cross
The blood I shed flowing freely
In the effort to pay your cost
Just thirty-three and condemned to die
My holy duty to reconcile
A world of lost sinners, for whom I cried
For whom I walked that final mile
I am not complaining
It was God's will for me to do
But as you contemplate your own distress
Please remember I died for you.
