I had to walk around the store talking to myself trying to figure out what I had at home what I had in the cart, and what I needed to get, otherwise I KNOW I would have forgotten something.
I got some day old mini bread sticks and slathered them with a garlic butter and put them in the broiler for 3 minutes, nice and soft and buttery, yummo.
the stroganoff, while not the original recipe that take hours to simmer because you don't cook the beef all they way through is so easy.
beef tips, I used stew meat, works just as well
Fry the beef up with some onions, salt garlic and mushrooms, while this is going on start your egg noodles,
Once the beef is cooked all the way through ( I have to transfer to a larger pot), but don't drain the fat, add about a cup of beef broth, sour cream I used a large tub (making a double batch), white wine optional) and some corn startch to thicken it. If it gets to thick you can add a little more sour cream or beef broth to it, then you let it simmer for about 20 minutes.
I also added some Marscapone cheese, and some bleu Cheese. not a lot just enough to give it a little flavor.
Everyone loved it and it takes about an hour start to end.
Tradition says spoon sauce OVER the noodles, but I always mix it in so the sauce stretches a little bit further.
My kids love it when I do this.
and if you are in even more of a hurry you can use cream of mushroom soup, and ground beef as a substitute (same effect just a little bit different taste)
