My husband got laid off in February. He's been looking for a job, but no one is hiring. Recently, he got in touch with a guy he knows who is working in New Orleans. He wasn't sure if his company was hiring, but he is going to talk to the people he works for and see. My husband went ahead and sent him his resume, so hopefully something good will come from it!
New Orleans is three hours away, so we'd only see each other on the weekends, but the money is really good so if he gets a job we won't be able to pass it up. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that they have an opening! It's a temporary contract job, but every little bit helps! And it could possibly last up to a year, which would hopefully get us through the slump in the economy. I just really hope they are hiring!!
I'm so grateful for everything we do have, even though times are hard. I just read an article about all of the people already living in tent cities.
How are you and your family doing in this economy?

I think the main question is whether or not they are hiring. The guy who is currently working for them (and highly recommended Brian) thinks they need more people, but he isn't sure. Hopefully we'll know something soon!
Instead he started working for a relative, who was in the contracting/construction business, and a year ago he started up on his own. I'm so proud of my husband for being able to do this, as he was so down about not being able to use his excellent college education or work experience. Today we are making it, but we make sure to live within our means.
Hubby lost his job on March 6th. He is was injured his back on the job back in June, so workers comp has been paying for all the doctor appts. He is still under workers comp and they have decide not to pay him, until they decide what they are going to do. They think he is faking his injury. It is a real mess right now. We have some in savings but that is not going to last for more than a couple of months. My pay check will not pay to many of the bills. Just taking it one day at a time here.
Good Luck to your hubby on gettng the job.
Luckily my husband's job is fairly recession proof (Medical Assistant) BUT, it also doesn't pay enough so we're still struggling horribly.
Wow, April, that's rough. I'm sure it's hard to wait this long to see. It's great that you are so supportive of your husband, though. Great to see. I actually just posted something on a similar topic, and would your input, either regarding yourself or your husband! I know your perspective would add a lot, though you may not be college students from Minnesota. I'd really appreciate it :) Here's the link.
Update - He got the job! We've spent the last two weeks getting him settled in in NOLA, but we think it's going to work out well!
