Greetings Sistahs Shed:
Today begins the Spring Session of Shedding Light. Welcome. In this session, the format of the group will change. Instead of steps, we'll have waves: First Wave, Second Wave, etc. Steps either go up or down, in this group we will be continuously moving just like waves. Holding this in mind, please become great friends with your water glass. Find one that is beautiful and give it a name. She/he will become your best friend this session. More on that later - Shedding Light wants to make you aware of the importance of water - you should be drinking some water right now, are you?
Drinking water is one of the most important things you can do for your body. Drink eight glasses of water a day. Better yet, slice a piece of lemon and squeeze that in the water. My crystal wine glass is my water glass. Her name is Azulina.
Walking is also extremely important. If you're already walking one half hour every single day, then upgrade it to an hour. On this walk, be aware of your surroundings, the sounds, the smells, your thoughts. Every single day, you may post a poem about this walk. It has to be something short that comes to you. You don't have to worry about the structure, the style - just something creative about your daily walk. Haikus are lovely. We want you to look forward to your walks for inspiration - this should be fun for you.
If you can't walk for a half an hour, let me know. We'll work with each of you individually. Everyone is different in a beautiful unique way. We want to treat you that way!
These creative ditties should be titled: Daily Creative Currents
I'll ask now that each of you do the First Wave now. We have a few new folks in the group and some of the Winter Sistahs have grown wiser. We want this to be a close-knit group so bare it all:
First Wave - Shedding Light
Tell us about you - who are you right now? Why are you in this group and what do you hope to accomplish?
This will give me an idea of how to proceed. I encourage all of the new folks to read some of the older posts. Participation is what makes this group so successful. Also, please comment on each group member's posts. Please feel free to ask any questions. Start Splashing Sistahs. Salud

John, thank you - I have a whole series I painted while we were away on a trip - the hub was working and this was easy to carry with me and still feel like I was painting!!! Appreciate the compliment as always. Salud
Thanks Priscilla - you're in. I must stress that this isn't a weight loss group - we are working on losing ten pounds by spring and shedding light on our inner selves. We want to balance the person - mind, body and spirit in a healthy way. Weight is a symptom of imbalance. Thanks! Salud
I need to lose weight. I'm a good water drinker, well over a liter a day and usually 2. Strange, though, today I got thirsty and a bd cough, and drank down 1/2 liter well chilled water with lemon juice in it--and heaved it back up in a minute. It came up still ice old, and as I type this, my throat is still cold from it!
I love diet Coke and make that part of my daily liquid intake, too. No calories, just flavorful wet stuff. I hope it is acceptable and will help me lose weight.
I'm still struggling with health. I will have retina-macula surgery in April, and the cardiogist hav been making threatening knife-wielding noises for early May. :-( I hope it doesn't keep me from participating well this time, because this fat tummy has got to go!
Thanks for your help, Mariana.
Patricia - I have written a note to you about that. Salud
Tonight, doing a healing bath. I've overdue for some relaxation....
Since aspartame came on the market in l981, it has accounted for more than 75 percent of the complaints reported in the FDA’s Adverse Reaction Monitoring system. The most common adverse reactions attributed to aspartame are headaches, dizziness, attention difficulties, memory loss, slurred speech and vision problems. This cluster of symptoms has become so common that it is actually referred to as “aspartame disease”.
Even more serious disorders have a suspected link with aspartame. Is it an accident that the incidence of brain tumors has increased by 10% since l975? John W. Olney, MD, of the Washington University Medical School in St. Louis believes there may be a link between the two. In an article published in The Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology, he notes that animal studies reveal high levels of brain tumors in aspartame-fed rats. According to Dr. Olney, recent findings show that aspartame has mutagenic (cancer-causing) potential, and the sharp rise in malignant brain tumors coincides with the increased use of aspartame.
Could serious seizures and vision loss somehow be associated with the sweetener? The U.S. Navy and Air Force published articles in Navy Physiology and Flying Safety with this warning: “several researchers have found aspartame can increase the frequency of seizures, or lower the stimulation necessary to induce them. This means a pilot who drinks diet sodas is more susceptible to flicker vertigo, or to flicker-induced epileptic activity. It also means that all pilots are potential victims of sudden memory loss, dizziness during instrument flight, and gradual loss of vision.”
Dorine - please read this and take note - or go to the site - if you can not find it, I'll send you the link. Salud
Monica, I can't do without coffee, though I will sometimes substitute green tea. I cut back on my Splenda use drastically during the Winter session and am about to go 'cold turkey' on it during the work week. I'll let you know what changes I notice....

Those exploring plant-based diets inevitably hear the terms "complete protein" and "protein complementary." Foods with all the essential amino acids in precise proportions readily usable by the body are considered "complete proteins."
Animal proteins including meat, fish, eggs and dairy products provide complete proteins. Plant-based proteins are usually incomplete, that is, they're abundant in some amino acids and lack others. An exception to this is soy protein, which is complete--explaining why soy foods are so valued in meatless diets.
Foods that have incomplete proteins can be eaten with other foods whose amino acid structure complements, or completes, their own. For example, corn, which is low in the amino acids tryptophan and lysine but rich in methionine, can be eaten with beans, whose amino acid strengths and weaknesses are just the reverse.
Plant based proteins can be combined to create complete proteins. Complementary foods need not necessarily be combined in the same meal. Amino acids that don't form a complete protein survive in the body for 12 hours. Eating a variety of foods throughout the day insures proteins from plant-based foods will be completed by those in other foods.

Linda, this is for you! Salud
Also anything with Aspartame is awful for you!!!! Yuck! If you must have a sweetener, please use Stevia, as it is all an all natural plant derivative, with no chemicals added. I just figure the less chemicals we ingest the better off we off.
Mariana, you rock!
Working on mine now........will be posting in a few!!
*air kisses from afar*
Creative Currents are due everyday because you are supposed to be moving every day!!! Salud
i must have intuitively known I'd benefit by joining here. I have a serious lack of water challenge. Dehydrated gray material and achy joints as a result, in spite of a life long passion for walking and physically challenging work.
I'll greatly benefit from the daily writing inspired by walking. That's long been my source of vitality and wellness.
Later this spring I'll really make use of everyones ongoing efforts, as I return to being housebound in a very HOT city with out air conditioning. Makes it hard to keep the weights and yoga ball going. I've really paid for that this year. First time in my adult life I've felt unwell.
I'll go join the group and thanks Mariana. (great following you have here!Well earned from what I read.)
If you have a low day or a high day - once a week write Low Tide - for the low points
and High Tide if you have a great revelation or celebration or lose a pound or whatever makes you happy!
I'll post Second Wave in a few days.
PLEASE EVERYONE - Comment on all the posts in the home page - www.springpounds.gather.com
support all the Sistahs! Thanks. Salud
Love the pic you posted and I'm curious about what the new members will have to say, I already know most of them and I'm thrilled to see them here. It will be an altogether different round.
Daily splashes - should be interesting:)
