This past Saturday at the dance party, the host's grandson wanted to do a "Drum Circle". I have never heard of this but I love drums so we all joined in. My friend has many different types of drums, so she distributed them all around. The person with the "Mother drum", the bass drum, started off the beat and while going around the next person added their own beat. The object of this circle was to create an organized drum beat and to stay together.
I joined in playing the drums but who can listen to the drum music and not get up and dance? I recalled some of the dances from the Houston International Festival last year. Last year's theme was "Out of Africa". So, in the spirit of Africa I attempted to mimic some dances that I could remember. I danced within the circle for as long as I could bear. Boy was I beat after all that dancing.
After some rest, my friend and I put on belly dance hip scarves and held scarves in our hands to swirl above and around us dancing in a circle. I have to tell you that I have never done this in public until this past weekend. I had so much fun being myself and being with others who enjoy the same things that I do. This fellowship has been missing in my life for all my life!
Last but not least, while still dancing, I joined my husband in playing his drum. We had such a blast together. I would not give up that evening with my husband for the world!
