I subscribe to a newsletter titled Organic Bytes. It is produced by the Organic Consumers Association and its main purpose is.. of course... to promote organics.
One article in particular caught my eye this week. It was about a US delegation that is hoping to travel to Cuba to study their organic gardening infrastructure and processes.
Say what? Cuba? I would have never guessed! But I guess it is as the saying goes... "Necessity is the Mother of Invention". After being cut off from Russia's oil and decades of US embargoes, the country HAD to find a way to feed it's people. Without fuel for tractors and access to chemicals to aid in food production... they went local and organic. There is a video, about 8 minutes long, worth watching.
We could learn a bit from their "life lesson". Maybe we could adopt the same principles before the NEED to do so knocks on our door!
