It was that last summer
With the cry of seagulls
And the ships out at sea
And the horizon blue
Upon blue of the sea
And sky and Milton and
You walking hand in hand
On the deep sand and he
Talking about his book
On Shelley and you there
Smiling, taking in his
Gaze and his bright blue eyes
And that tone of voice, that fine
Timbre, that feel of
Him next to you, his flesh
On yours, his words caught in
The slight breeze, and then you
Awake and know it was
A dream of you and him
Before he died that last
Summer, his life going
Out like the cold sea's tide.
