Last week, Nick worked two back to back 12 hour shifts to cover for people on the night shift that couldn't work. Because he's salary, all he could really get was some free PTO. So, he earned 6 hours of free PTO. He requested to take today off.
We made plans to try and get in a quick lunch, and a movie if we could find one that worked out, time wise. Because of Chris, we have to hold off a bit before we can leave town, though. So, here's how we spent our day.
We started off grabbing some quick groceries at Walmart to kill time before taking Chris his meds. While we were there, I found the tent that I have been eyeing got marked down from $84 to $64 on clearance. There were 2 left, so we grabbed one. Now I have my tent for this summer.
It's not too large, but big enough for us 4. It sleeps 6 total. My favorite part, though, is that it has an attached canopy over the main door, so that if it's raining, we won't get soaked just standing outside. We're planning to stay at KOA campgrounds, and they only allow 1 tent per site. I don't know if they also include canopies with that, though. Either way, it's a nice addition to the front of the tent.
Once we were done at Walmart, we got Chris his meds, and headed out towards Lansing. I'd planned it all pretty well last night. The cheap theater on the west end had Knowing at 1:30. Logan's was right in front of the theater, and had the 2 meals for $13.99 deal going, and Rae was going to pick the kids up from school while we headed home.
We went to lunch first, and I was a bit dissappointed. I ordered my steak medium rare. Nick ordered his medium. Mine was done medium, and had fat marbled through out the entire thing, making it hard to cut and chew, though the steak itself was still mostly tender.
It wasn't until about halfway through that I realized Nick's steak was done medium rare- they'd given us the wrong ones. Or maybe they were written down wrong, I don't know. Either way, I wasn't impressed with my steak.
We did get out of there for less than $20 for two full, sit down steak meals, though.
After that, we had some time to kill, so we browsed at Best Buy, then went on to the movie.
I have to say, I really liked "Knowing", but I really disliked the way they handled the ending, pretty much for the last 15 minutes at least. Without any spoilers, I'll say this. The movie was fairly normal and dramatic, with some -small- hints of both religious undertones, and sci-fi undertones.
Then, in the end, they really just blast away with both, and it just really doesn't fit the over all theme of the movie, I felt. It was good, though, and very engrossing. I enjoyed it, just didn't feel like the end fit. I was hoping for something different, but I don't know what.
From there, we headed home with a quick stop at Big Lots, and the gas station.
It was a nice frugal day, though, with the movie being under $10 total for both of us, and the meal being under $20. It sure is cheaper doing a date "night" during the day, to snag lower prices for the same things.
