clearing the pantry

For years, I prided myself on having a full pantry - something stored aside for a rainy day.

Well, it's time to clear it out!

Until I am used to living with MUCH less income, I need to use what I have before buying more.  I'll buy fresh food, but need to eat what I have - soups, etc.

I also have to look through the closet where I store cleaning supplies and beauty supplies - shampoos and such.  I bet I have enough of certain items for a LONG, LONG time.

I need to buy less, use less, spend less.

I have many many bottles of shampoo etc from my days of traveling. I really should be using those up.

That's an excellent challenge too.. How long can I go just buying true basics? I think we all have several weeks worth of miscellaneous items that will make interesting meals. I know I certainly can!

Yes. When you start using up some of the older stuff and you have more room, then you can start trying new things that you never had space for before. I now am getting too many new things taking up the old space.

I have been trying to do that too. When I moved last year, I realize how much stuff I have. And I probably will be moving again soon, so I am trying to use up can goods both to save money for the move and so that I won't have to move them!

I'm in the same boat . . . I have a lot of 'supplies' that are going to last for some time. I like the idea of buying less, using less and spending less - I've been working on those goals with good results. Good luck & keep us posted . . .

Good idea to use up what you have but put enough aside for emergencies, plan a menu for at least a few days, a week and put it in some kind of hamper to grab quickly. You can also donate to your town's shelters, they'll appreciate it.
