Michigan 15-year-old dies after police Taser him

Police in Michigan say a 15-year-old boy has died after being Tasered by officers who were trying to break up a fight.

Police didn't release his name and say state police are investigating.

A Bay City police news release says officers answered a report of an early morning fight on Sunday. The statement says two males were arguing in an apartment, and one of them "attempted to fight the officers."

Police say officers Tasered him, and his reaction led them to immediately call for emergency medical help. He was pronounced dead at Bay Regional Medical Center.

Sounds like a freak accident.  Been hearing a lot about officers shooting and killing without being provoked.  Officers finally do the right thing and taser someone that is being violent and they die.  Sounds like a freak occurrence.

That's just terrible! Sometimes I think the police are getting a bit too carried away with using this taser thing......although there are instances when it does need to be used.....gosh, so much violence in the world today!

Taser's should be outlawed, period. They kill. They are a lethal weapon, as deadly as a handgun in the hands of police. What has happened here, is a form of cowardly laziness. The company that manufactures them should be sued, and the department. What your story doesn't say, is the teenager was already handcuffed. Soon, they'll come out with the tranquilizer gun similar to those used on escaped zoo animals.

Pretty sad stuff to hear. Not sure why folks fight back like that when they are already restrained, but the damage tasers seem to leave across the landscape are terrifying. You would think police departments would begin exploring alternative methods based on the bad PR alone.

I've read over 12 stories THIS YEAR where police kill someone with a taser, including one who didn't speak English at the Vancouver airport. The cops are supposed to stop the current after the perp drops...they think it's cute to keep it up while the victim writhes on the floor.

This is going to have nasty consequences for the police offices as well as the boy's family. I feel badly for all of them. Taser use should be investigated. I agree overall with their use, but anything can be abused.

The cops that do these kinds of things UNLESS it is ABSOLUTELY needed, should be kicked off the force. It is a crime that they are not paying for. We all know that if WE did that, we would be up for murder or at least aggravated assault. Police officers have WAY too much control these days.
