Is It the Economy?

I have a rear entry garage, so of course, like everyone else on the block, I park a car on the street in front of my house. I left one night this week and saw a note taped to my windshield. All sorts of thoughts came through my mind as I was driving. Did someone want to buy the car? Was a neighbor protesting my weeds were too tall? Did someone want to complain that my house needed painting? Want some plants? To do yardwork and didn't have a business card? Fortunately it was only another 5 minutes before I could stop and read the note.

Sure enough, someone wanted to buy the car if I was interested in selling. This is a 1998 Toyota Camry. Why would an 11 year old car be so much in demand? The exterior has the dents and dings you'd expect on a car that old. Bet the person making the offer had no idea it had 237,000 miles on it.

When gas prices were high, someone knocked on my door, wanting to buy the 1999 Toyota Corolla. It desperately needs a paint job and has 167,000 miles on it. I figured that was someone who was suffering from the high gas prices but couldn't afford a newer car.

I was just wondering if anyone else was having similar experiences.

No, but I have a mini van which is not exactly fuel efficient. I wonder if your car is one of the cars that has really popular parts on it. They might be thinking they could make a profit selling off the parts.

Not happening to me --- but then again we only drive Diesel vehicles and mine is a Ford Excursion, so obviously no one is banging down my door. BUT, I must say, we bought our Excursion at the height of the gas "crisis" last summer (we have 3 kids who will play lots of sports, etc... so we wanted something large enough to transport other teammates and school friends with us if needed) and we got a STEAL! We bought it used, obviously since they don't make them anymore and we able to haggle because SUVs were not moving off of used car lots. We test drove it, let it sit for a month and then returned to the dealer and they were desperate enough to take our offer!

For us, it is perfect and my hubby knows how to maintain and work on diesel vehicles, so we will drive it until the wheels fall off!

Yes! Our daughters pick-up was out front of our house and a young man stopped by and wanted to buy it. We haggled a price and he drove away with it the next day. Funny thing is we had already bought a for sale sign to put in the front window but hadn't done it yet.

Yeah, when I had my Geo Metro and gas prices were high, someone left a note on my car asking about buying it. They had to walk way far into our apartment complex's lot to leave me the note, which makes me think it was a neighbor. But, the car was having a lot of problems and couldn't, in good conscience, sell it to them. Plus, I needed it to trade in for a new car.

Yes, I get asked all the time, as well as notes left under the wipers. I have an 1984 Toyota 4x4 pick-up truck and people want to buy it all the time. A few times they have even come to the door to ask me. It's always parked out front in the drive-way and in good shape w/135k miles on it. Fairly low for an '84....

I can't really imagine why they wouldn't just look in the PennySaver, on Craigslist, ebay etc. for a car that's already for sale.... Weird.

Yeppers! lol I have people pulling into the driveway a lot. First wanting an old car, that we used for parts. It looked nice on the outside. But open the hood and you could hear an echo.. lmbo We have since taken it to the scrap yard. Heck they were coming asking if we had any scrap..

One man even wanted to buy our dog fence! I said, well the dog is using it at the moment.. ;-) oh, he said, I thought that kennel was empty. And you'd like to have it hauled away.....

Two of my van-pool partners have older Honda Accords...one night when we arrived back at the meeting spot, they both had notes from someone wanting to buy their cars...it was all about the cost of gas. Too bad they didn't join our van pool...better idea.

Nope, no longer even drive! $1.25 gets you on the bus to the end of the line if you want, $2.50 an all day pass back and forth anywhere you want all day long, is very convenient as the stop is right out my front door and they come every 1/2/ hour

not here but the van is sitting at the curb with a flat tire...not to mention no battery and the rod went out...but I take that back, one guy offered me $50 for it....I'm taking it back to where I got it and he's going to give me something to drive while he finds me something else.
