I saw Marianne R.’s post today about the books she had read so far this year and thought I would jump on the bandwagon. So I’ve joined the group and I hope to not only track the books I read but also find out about other books and their authors.

My list of books that I have read so far this year:

“Dead to the World” – Charlaine Harris

“Dead as a Doornail” – Charlaine Harris

“Definitely Dead” – Charlaine Harris

“All Together Dead” – Charlaine Harris

“Obsession” – Karen Robards

 Next on my list is “From Dead to Worse” from Charlaine Harris.

Cool! I love the Charlaine Harris books, and I've read the Twilight books as well. I've read a few Linda Howard books in the past too.
I keep track of my books read on GoodReads.com but maybe I should keep updates here on Gather as well. Hmm.
So, which series do you like the best...Sookie or Twilight? Why? I haven't read the Twilight series. What are the pros and cons of both of the series?

Katherine, the series are so different, basically the only thing they have in common is vampires. What vampires can and can't do is different in each series. In the Sookie Stackhouse series, vampires have come "out of the coffin" and are recognized as citizens, they have rights and are allowed to own businesses.

The main characters in each series, Bella Swan in "Twilight" is 17 and is in high school while Sookie Stackhouse is 25 and a waitress at a local bar and happens to be a telepath. "Twilight" is aimed at the young adult audience and centers around the romance between Bella and vampire Edward. The other series is very much adult, dealing with murder, other supernatural characters such as werewolves, fairies, shapeshifters and
life in a very small northern Louisiana town.

I love both series but I would put the Sookie Stackhouse series first because it is more mature subject matter and the characters are quirky and interesting.

Vickki, I've never really kept up with what I have read but now that I'm not working I have more time to read and so many books get new covers or the authors give the story a facelift and a title change so now I have to keep a list.

I'll be buying that Sookie Stackhouse series from Amazon with the GC I hope to cash in for today (can you believe I still need 9 points, ugh).

Good list so far. I fall behind when I get stuck with a bad book cause it takes me so long to force myself through it, lol.

Marianne, book 8 will be out in paperback in April...can't wait!
Thanks Kat, I'm really not in the mood to read about a romance between a teen and her vampire boyfriend. In fact one of the down falls of the Sookie series is the way she acts immature in the matters of love, but then again she never had a real boyfriend before. My favorite part of the series is Sookie's ability to read thoughts.

I don't usually buy books, I get pretty much all my reading material from the Library. When I do buy a book it's from the Used book store and has to be at a great low price : - )

Katherine, maybe half or less of my books I buy new. I swap with friends and relatives, craigslist and even thrift stores. My local Goodwill has tons of books for $2.50 or less.

Marianne, I hate to pay full price for a new release. If I can't wait I check out the new releases at BJ's, they much less than the bookstores. I will not wait for book 9 of the Sookie Stackhoe use series, it will be released in May and I will be getting this one new, lol.

I've been meaning to do one of these too. The Twilight series is in my list of books that I've read this year too. I've heard of those Sookie Stackhouse books before and wondered if we would like them.

Victoria, check your local library and see if they have the Sookie books. "Dead Until Dark" is the first one. In many ways I really like this series much better than "Twilight".

I've read all the Sookies and love them. I did watch True Blood on HBO but missed the last few episodes because I didnt' really like the direction they took away from the books. I can't wait for the new Sookie to come out either.

You have a great list started here.  I am reading New Moon right now.  I too will check out the Sookie books.
