I saw this opera a few years ago. I remember enjoying the performance, but had not thought about it much since then. That was until last week. I was looking for something to play, and decided to give the CD of Thais a spin.
Thais was written by French Composer Jules Massenet in 1894. In his time, Massenet was wildly popular, but that poularity seems to have faded. I don't know why this composer is out of favor, but perhaps it is because his work does not have catchy hooks like Mozart or Puccini.
The story is usual opera fare: jealosy, betrayal, tragedy, etc. It really doesn't matter. Its the music that matters.
We have this recording, with Renee fleming. This video has no visual, so just let it play in the background while you gather.

I must admit that I'm not an opera fan, but that's one of my favorite things about gather. I'm introduced to new forms of all categories in art. So, who knows, I'll google it and give it an listen.
Thanks for sharing it with us!
