If Only You Knew

A waterfall of color
Stains my eyes
Rainbow tears adorn me
Tranquility lost in dreams
Peace unrelentingly absent
As distance defines me
Joy lingers in worded bliss
Definitions often missed
In muted silence
Agony awaits thee
But your pen to page
My sister, my sage
Your truth awaits thee
Put your heart to ink
Sink into timelessness
For love sets you free
Foes will fade
Friends will rise
Open your eyes
To your own divinity
A Goddess of words
Emotion and music
If only you knew
What others see in you
A light so bright
Darkness no longer has meaning

This poem talks at first about troubles and talks as if they have been a blessing, but the switches gears to give some advice to one much younger. This poem seems to encapsulate various life moments and the message is not maternal, but rather that of sharing a personal outlook on what she thinks is a normal successful life.

I like so much the use of the short irregularly rhyming lines here to get across a glorious lyrical invitation to the art of poesy as a consolation for suffering, and an opportunity to transform the world in the interior landscapes of feeling that the imagination opens through language.
