The Battle was Lost

Last night, my cousin Kelly passed away, after her battle against cancer. She was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma in late August or early September of last year. She went through chemo, and it looked like she would be in remission, before she took a turn for the worse.

She's been bad for a few weeks now, and honestly, I'm surprised she made it this long. Back in February, she was doing very bad, not talking much, not eating, not opening her eyes at all over the past few weeks.

She's in a better place, and it will be easier on her family, but it's still heartbreaking.

Heather I am sorry to hear this. I was commenting earlier today on an article that we can send a man to the moon but we can't find a cure for Cancer. I just hope that changes soon as it would save many lives and a lot of heartache. My thoughts are with your family.

Your family will be in my prayers. We lost a 51 year old brother-in-law to cancer 3 years ago, and it is hard even though we know he is in heaven, and healthy and whole again.

It is sad that she is gone, but I'm glad she is no longer in pain. Kelly was a wonderful person.

Thank you so much, everyone. As much as I was expecting this, the phone call this morning was really hard to receive. There is going to be a visitation on Tuesday only, and the funeral on Wed. It's over in GR, so I'm heading over there on Tuesday after school, then staying over night. I will be keeping the kids out of school so I can go, but that's my only real option right now.

I'm sure Wed will be hard, but then the healing can start again.

I am so terribly, terribly sorry to learn of her death......it's always soooo difficult to lose those we love, a pain that can't begin to compare to anything else.......I've lost my share of family and relatives, and each and every one is so hard to deal with, no matter how strong of a Christian a person is.......she was very beautiful, but now she is in a much better place, whole once again, never to be ill ever........you and the family are in my prayers.....I know the visitation and memorial service will be very difficult, but it's all part of the grieving/healing process.

My sincerest condolences. You don't need me to tell you that she is much better off and in a better place. That doesn't make any easier for you and your family though. She will be missed. Hopefully soon you will be able to remember the happy memories and she will still be alive that way.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Thank you so much everyone. It's going to be a hard week, but I know for my Aunt & Uncle, and for their other children and grandchildren, it's been a very hard few months. Kelly was taken out of the hospital in February when it became clear the end was coming, and was being cared for at her parents house with the help of all the family, and hospice.

While it's heartbreaking, I'm sure they are also feeling some relief that she's in a much better place now.
