Cleaning tips
I found these tips online in a community of women. These were the starting topic ideas. Some women added their own tips to this list. I'll mention a few after the numbered items. I haven't tried all these ideas, so I can't guarantee all of them really work.
#1 Remove soap scum off shower doors with a used dryer sheet.
#2. To remove a greasy stain from a carpet, spray aerosol shaving cream onto the area, use a hair dryer to dry it, and then vacuum it up.
#3. Keep old, torn panty hose and use it to polish shoes. The ultra fine weave creates a brilliant shine on leather!
#4. To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously. The salt will absorb the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new.
#5. Spray your plastic food containers with non-stick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces, and it won't leave stains.
#6. Ants are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march to prevent them from taking over!
#7. Use spray air fresheners to clean mirrors. It said to do a good job, and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.
#8. To clean baked-on food off of a pan, fill the pan with water and add a new dryer sheet to it. Then let it sit overnight. In the morning, take a sponge and easily wipe it clean.
#9. Drop two Alka Seltzers into a toilet bowl and wait 20 minutes, brush, and flush clean! The effervescent action, and citric acid clean ceramic.
#10. Got a mossy roof? Sprinkle laundry detergent on it! The detergent will kill off, and prevent more moss from growing!
Additional comments:
*Carpet cleaner takes crayon off walls.
*Oven-Off can be used on tubs with stubborn soap scum, but DON'T leave it on more than 5 minutes!
*Place a paper towel tube on the end of the vacuum cleaner to get into tight places and narrow spaces. You can squeeze it, flatten it, bend it where you want.
*Before putting something sticky into your measuring cup, fill it with hot water and dump it out. Don't dry it. The sticky stuff like peanut butter comes out easier.
*Toothpaste also takes crayon off the wall. It helps remove stains from clothes as well.
*Listerine helps clean up the dirty grout in bathrooms.
*Karo Syrup helps remove stubborn grass stains.
*Coke helps remove grease stains from clothes.
*Colgate toothpaste helps clean your silverware.
*Pyrex pots and pans can be cleaned off with oven cleaner. Let it soak for an hour.
*Simple Green kills, and wards off, ants and other small bugs.
*Pool acid, aka muriatic acid, gets hard water stains out of the toilet. Let it sit for a few moments before flushing.
*To clean a kitchen drain put 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain and follow it with 1 cup of vinegar. Let the water run a few minutes after the foaming has stopped.
*Dryer sheets in the sock drawer give off a nice scent and help ward off static cling.
What are some additional non-traditional cleaning methods you use?
