Woman Killed After Gas Station Pump Explodes

A convenience store gasoline pump caught fire and exploded Tuesday, killing a woman and injuring at least one other person, police said.

Witnesses told The Gazette newspaper the pump caught fire after hit was hit by a pickup that had in turn been struck by an SUV. Police said the incident was under investigation.

This is such a sad story. I don't think I could live with myself if I caused an accident that ended up killing someone, especially the way this young 18-year-old died. Being burned alive has got to be the most horrible way to die.

I saw a documentary on this recently. They said to touch the car to ground yourself before touching the handle to pump gas. Poor girl!

Oh my gosh, how horrible! That is a terrible way to die.....I lost a very, very dear friend in a fire.....she burned to death in a chair....had MS, was smoking and dropped the cigarette......such a horrible tragedy!

I am going to show this to my family. They are always making fun of me because I won't let them get in and out of the car, use their cell phones or leave the car running while I'm pumping gas. This just proves my point!

They say it really doesn't take much of a spark at a gas station to cause something like this - I guess we are very lucky it doesn't happen more often.

It's true. It doesn't take much to cause the fumes around a gas pump to ignite. So very sad.

Well, that's certainly ironic. It's like a scene from an art movie where the woman represents American families that are being killed by high gas prices and are how we're killing the future with SUVs.
