| Natasha Richardson  March 17, 2009 Actress Natasha Richardson 'critical' after skiing accident in Canada http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article5922812.ece  The award-winning actress Natasha Richardson was in a critical condition today after a skiing accident in Canada.   The British star suffered a "traumatic brain injury" on the slopes of the exclusive resort of Mont Tremblant in Quebec yesterday afternoon, the website Irishcentral.com reported. Richardson's husband, the Irish actor Liam Neeson, is currently shooting a film in Toronto and left for Montreal after hearing of the acccident. A spokesperson for the production said: "We do not have any details at this time but we hope for the best and our thoughts and prayers are with Natasha and Liam and their family." Richardson, 45, is the daughter of the actress Vanessa Redgrave and late film director, Tony Richardson, and has worked extensively both on stage and screen. Kikia Markham, who is married to Richardson's uncle, Corin Redgrave, said: "We know that she has had an accident but we really do not know any more details. We are very concerned." Born in May 1963, Richardson made her big screen debut at the age of 4 with a non-speaking role in The Charge of the Light Brigade, directed by her father. She was educated at St Paul's Girls School in London and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Her extensive experience on stage includes a number of Shakespearean roles, among them Ophelia in Hamlet and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 1986 she won the London Drama Critics' most promising newcomer award for her performance as Nina in The Seagull alongside her mother. Riichardson won the Tony award for best actress in a musical for her performance as Sally Bowles in Sam Mendes' production of Cabaret on Broadway in 1998. On the big screen, Richardson featured in the 1998 film The Parent Trap as well as Maid In Manhattan (2002) with Jennifer Lopez. She married Neeson in 1994 after they appeared together in the film Nell. The couple have two sons. |
