The 33 year old Deborah Turbiville, who liked to call herself the Heidi Fleiss of Houston, and her 31 year old husband were both busted by Houston police on March 10th. The two of them ran an escort service, servicing over 1500 of Houston’s “professional athletes, doctors and lawyers” at upwards of $300 a pop. To keep the police at bay, Deborah Turbiville and her husband ran extensive background checks on potential customers before allowing them in the door; only taking on recommendation of current clients.
Ironically enough, since Deborah Turbiville kept such good records with her background checks, the client list is still being held by the police for future prosecutions, probably making quite a few of Houston’s best and brightest a little bit sweaty.
I do find one thing funny about this Deborah Turbiville bust: The fact she calls herself the “Heidi Fleiss of Houston”. I personally think you do yourself a disservice any time you compare yourself to a more popular entity by calling yourself the “X of Y”. For instance, I had a friend who always said she went to the “Harvard of the Midwest” (I can’t remember the college in question, which I think proves my point), and that always made me laugh (not always behind her back, neither). I mean, if you compare yourself to the original, that just pretty much means you don’t stack up to said original.
So to prove my point about Deborah Turbiville not being on the same level of Heidi Fleiss, we’ll see if she gets herself a book/movie deal or if she just fades into obscurity after three weeks. That will be our litmus test… if of course we remember to try and remember her in a few weeks
Bly me, I do believe I’ve created a paradox. Now we’ll just have to wait to see if it destroys the planet.
