I’m sorry if I scared anyone by using the dreaded ‘w’ word in the title. Actually, we have choices this week. If you want to take your character to work, that’s fine, and you can do so in exercise #1. If you would rather choose another place or another exercise, that’s cool, too. I think there is something here for everyone.
Choose any (or all) of the following three exercises, which are designed to help you see and hear your character, somewhere in your real world:
1) Write a couple of paragraphs about your last trip to the coffee shop, pharmacy, Laundromat, library, restaurant, church, mall, park, or anyplace that you go often. Then, rewrite the scene, putting your character in your place. Notice the difference in your character’s language, actions, personality, observations, etc.
2) Write the last disagreement, argument, or major fight you had (depending on what you are willing to share publicly – make one up if you don’t want to share your personal life, just make it true to your personality). Rewrite it, putting your character in your place. Notice the difference in your character’s language, actions, personality, observations, etc
3) Write a scene from your childhood. Rewrite it with your character (at the same age) in your place. Again, notice the difference in your character’s language, actions, personality, observations, etc
Kudos to Lynn, for doing a great job with the bonus challenge last week. I’ll repeat that challenge this week, and our exercise next week will be to choose one from all that are submitted. The challenge was to write an action scene that we can plug our characters into on their next field trip.
Chair Matching Game:
List the seats you remember from the carriage house stories. Who chose or described each one? Why do you think the characters chose the seats they did? If you had to choose a seat for each character, what would it be and why? Finally, describe your character’s seat and tell us why he/she chose it so we can see how well we know your character.
ARTISTS: You are invited to join the fun (and add to ours) by posting your impressions of the chairs or the carriage house found in these stories, to the photo section of the Wee We group.
Ongoing project/game:
I own the group 100 Interesting Things About Me, which I originally created because I thought the lists would provide topics we could use later for 100 interesting articles or stories. I created a list for Poncho, one of my favorite characters, and found it helpful as well as fun. I encourage you to start lists for your characters and add to them as you get to know the characters better. Maybe we can come up with a prize for the first one to reach 100.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Pat M. (Adam's creator) is still with us but a little distracted with a little one these days. He became a father on March 12. Congratulations to Pat and Mommy, and welcome to the world Mireya!
I'm sad to say that we have lost Emme and her character Cole. I will miss them here and hope Emme continues to write Cole's story.

Great job!
Here's my week 3 writing! 3 Strikes (This Week) and She's Out (aka: Ell's field trip) =)
Josephy I am working...well not really I am sitting at home typing but that is kinda like work...right?
"I have just become a first time Dad. So while I will still be working on the character in libe with the challenges, they won't be getting posted within the alloted time frames. I hope I don't fall too far behind..." Pat M., Mar 17, 2009, 3:27am EDT
CONGRATULATIONS, Pat!
Why do you hate me so?
Sadly,
The Ferryman ;-)
PS*: Would you rather I took TF to The Tavernacle or to the grocery store?

Did the men really boycott the carriage house?
I'm able to keep up with those who are creating groups for their characters much easier than trying to find them through other links.
I wasnt boycotting just being lazy and uncreative.
Sue, wouldn't she be a difference size or wear a skirt when you'd wear jeans? Tuck her hair behind her ear when you're more apt to doodle? Maybe be interested in or worried about something that you wouldn't be?
I hope you keep writing Lori!
She loved what you have going on with W.E.
tow= two... but you all knew that, right?
That's the spirit, Joy. I'll make sure every assignment leaves you the opportunity to kill someone. Shoot, you can just follow me around. I've had five friends or relatives die since November.

I just created a group for Aaron Delaney pieces:

Do you suggest inviting people to join? Or, just link all my posts and if people want to join, they can.
I know, Ferryman is an ambulance chaser!
the real Kathryn used to do volunteer work in Food Pantries.
I was referring to KEO's comments.
1. Write a few paragraphs about yourself - your REAL self - in any of the scenarios listed in the exercises (at work, as a child, in a fight).
2. Remove yourself and write your character in the same scene. Since we've developed these characters into full people apart from us, they should act, react, look, talk, and think different than we do, so their scene will not be like the one we've written about ourselves. For example, my Sabrina says she has a hot temper. In an argument, she would probably react much sooner than I would. She has young children, so she would might call home or be distracted in a restaurant, where I would be freer to just have a good time and not worry about anything. In my childhood scene, the people around me would be reading and correcting my grammar - I doubt those were priorities in Sabrina's childhood home.
Thanks, John. I'm having a great time. It isn't too late for you to introduce a new character to the mix. I know you don't like prompts. Since I usually end up writing something that I don't like later, I'm not real crazy about them myself. With that in mind, I am trying to offer exercises with as much leeway as possible. I'm open to suggestions if there's anything I can do to make this more appealing to you.
Well, thank HEAVENS I'll get to live Joy's life for a little while. Srsly -- WHY do you hate me?!
Sadly Yours Again,
The Ferryman ;-)
You must be confused. Not only do I not hate you, I think you are one of my favorite - whatever-you-ares.
Love,
Sandy
I usually just write what pops into my head when driving, running or cooking or doing the dishes...
Joy sure picked a tough character to work with, but that's what makes it so interesting. It's fun just to watch and wait, to see what she will pull off. lol There's nobody on Gather like Joy or the Ferryman!
Amanda (Debra's character) addressed her letter to Friday, "Dear Dad."
Gotta read Trolleana's again. Read it four times and missed that - although, I want to know if acorn loaves taste good, and if I can get the recipe. lol
Meanwhile, I went to pick up some eggs last night (nice getting out, even just for eggs, after being stuck sick and indoors for so long.) Here's the link to my trip verses Tee's trip. Sorry I couldn't get mine more exciting, but, hey, picking up some eggs, not going on a cruise to some exotic spot! (Good thing life, in general, is exciting for Tee. lol) http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977631115&nav=MyGather
Exercise Three
This all sounds like a lot of FUN!
