Oh... lord. Giaa's in heat

I posted earlier about the odd purring sound we'd been hearing from Giaa. Tonight, Nick noticed Rajik going after her in a definite show of dominance- biting at her neck, laying on top of her, etc. Raj, Aliex, & Kirese are all fixed. Giaa's not yet. She is due to be spayed on the 31st, which was the earliest time they could get her in.

Raj is definitely picking up on it, where as Aliex is completely indifferent to her right now. All 4 cats are riled up, though. They are all tearing through the house, with Raj going after Kirese with some not-violent growls. Oh, how I had hoped this wouldn't happen.

I think she's been in heat for almost a week now, and is just getting to the high end of it- rolling on the floor, crawling real low to it, calling out (loudly) quite a bit this evening, etc. She sprayed a bit when we first got her, so that may have been an early sign, or it may have been that she was marking her new home, too. She's been doing the loud calling/odd purring for at least a week, but it got much more pronounced tonight.

We had cats when I was growing up, and I don't know if they were fixed or not, but I don't recall them going into heat. I have no idea how long this will last, or what we should be worried about. She doesn't have access to any cats that will actually be capable of breeding, so at least there is that.

Wow are they feisty tonight.
