Grocery Shopping Again--3/14/09

You know I can't help myself when they are offering the buy 10 items get an additional $5 off your order.  Besides that, I didn't get enough in meat on the first trip and still needed to buy the rest of what I need to prepare the soup supper for church on Wednesday.

I did the 20 items again for an additional $10 off my bill.  Prices in ( ) will reflect the cost per item after taking an additional .50 off per item.  We also get coupons doubled here up to $1 total.

4-Toaster Strudel on sla for $2.39, used 4- .35 coupons = $1.69 each ($1.19 each)

Quaker Quakes on sale for .99 (.49)

4-Betty Crocker Fruit snacks $2.18 each- used 1 .75/2 and 1 .50/2 coupon=$1.68 per box ($1.18 each)

5 Betty Crocker potatoes, on sale for $1.49 a box, used 1 $1/2 coupon and 3 .40 coupons so 2 boxes were .99 and 3 were .69 (2 were .49 each and 3 were .19 each)

Kellogg's Mini Bites cereal on sale for $2.49, used $1 coupon =$1.49 (.99)

5 Chex Mix $2.19, used a mixture of .60 and .50 coupons=$1.19 each (.59 each)

(It's sad that it hasn't been that long ago that things like the Betty Crocker Potatoes used to go on sale for $1 a box and the Chex Mix the same--Toaster Strudel used to be $2 on sale.  Also, the coupons were higher in value too!)

For church I bought:

10 lb potatoes but will have enough left for us at least 2 meals at home $3.99

2 packages shredded cheddar on sale for $3.79 each (maybe some might be left over out of 8 cups!)

2 boxes of Cornbread mix on sale for $1.50 each

Onion .69

Other items:

Chicken Thighs family pack on sale for $1.19 lb--$6.14

Whole chicken on sale for .99 lb $5.12

2 packages Reames frozen noodles on sale for $2.49 each

1 lb ground turkey-$2.19!!  my gosh this is going up and up and up in price  Used to be $1.29, then $1.59, then up to $1.89 and now $2.19?

2-Hershey's candy bars, used buy 1 get 1 free coupon, took off the full price of .89 even though they were on sale for .75 so paid .61 for both (just one other thing that's gone sky high in price....89 for candy bars that used to be on sale 3 or 4 for $1 all the time!

2 Loaves of bread, one white, one wheat--the store now has what they call bargain bread for just .88 each so $1.76 total for 2.

Green Giant Frozen Herb and Butter potatoes, on sale for $2, used $1 coupon =$1

As she was ringing it up I didn't want to see the total, but was surprised when it came to just $46.46 total.  Not too bad at all really.

We now do have snacks stocked and I have them under "lock and key" where the kids have to ask me for them.
