If you are a car owner, there should be a place for such a maintenance tool as a car floor jack in your toolkit. Most times car manufacturers provide a specific jack with the cars they produce, but you may lose or break it or even not get it at all if you buy a used vehicle. Different automotive floor jacks are suited for different types of vehicles, that is why you should be very careful when choosing one for your car to be safe.
In most cases car jacks are used to raise a portion of a car. What it is mostly used for is changing tires, buy you will need in other occasions as well. You can lift only on corner of your car with a standard automotive floor jack. If you need to lift the entire back or front, use specialized jacks.
Automotive companies prefer to provide scissor jacks with their cars. For lifting the car up and down it utilizes the central screw mechanism. You can use a tire tool or a specialized handle (if you have got one in addition to your car jack) to turn the mechanism.
For larger vehicles like trucks you will have to use a high-lifting jack with a tall metal pole, large base plate and a ratcheting mechanism, because lifting such a weight is not an easy task.
Hydraulic automotive jacks are very popular as well. When choosing a hydraulic jack you can buy a wheeled or non-wheeled model.
The last type of car jacks which is often used in car repair shops is a large floor jack, which operates with the help of hydraulic fluid. The entire front or back of a vehicle can be raised up with the help of such a jack.
There are some safety features in every automotive jack which will prevent you from being injured. A wide base prevents the jack from sinking into the soil or tilting. Most jacks are fitted with a special mechanism or a handle for lifting a vehicle. However, there are automotive jacks which can be operated with the help of a simple tire repair tool. Every automotive jack has its stop point, which stops lifting if you have risen the car too high.
Having a car jack at hand when on the road has a lot of benefits. With a car jack you can quickly and easily change a tire in a situation when there is no one to help you or when you think that calling for assistance will be too expensive. It helps fulfilling other, not-so-emergent tasks, like changing oil, brake pads or oil as well, if you prefer to maintain your car by yourself. So, we may conclude from the above that an automotive floor jack is a must-have for every car owner.
