Learning to l
ive green is a responsible choice that can take some getting used to. If you are thinking about living a more green existence, here are some tips for getting started. However, anyone who chooses to go green should be applauded for their efforts. Every little bit counts, no matter how small you think your effort has been. Learning to live green may be a bit tougher than you think, but with a few adjustments here and there, you will find that the effort is well worth it and that you can get used to a green lifestyle. Most people who choose to live green say that they would never go back. Here are some tips to help you out if you have decided to go green with your lifestyle.
1. Practice the 3 R's. What are the three R's? The three R's stand for: recycle, reuse, and repair. This is the mantra of many a person who has gone green. Recycling is something that everyone can do to make the earth a greener place. No matter how small this act may seem to you, you can be sure that you are making a major difference in the world simply by recycling. Reuse is another type of recycling, which may include donating old furniture and clothes to charity, giving them away to friends, or selling them at a yard sale. The point of reusing things is that they do not go straight to the landfill. Instead of throwing something away, why not reuse it? The third R stands for repair. This is the same principle of reuse. Many people are quick to throw way things that are still perfectly useful. Why not repair them instead, instead of tossing them out to the already crowded landfill?
2. Gradually reduce your energy use. You do not have to build a new home out of renewable materials or install giant new solar energy panels on your roof that you can't really afford. Make your green lifestyle fit your life. An easy way to reduce your energy consumption is to upgrade your home appliances to energy star appliances when the time comes to replace them. Another easy thing to do is to replace your old toilet with a low-flow toilet. You can also do the same thing for your showerhead to spend less water.
3. Do the little things: ride your bike, carpool, composting. Many people think that going green means they will need to do a complete overhaul of their lifestyle. While it is true that in some cases going green will definitely take some adjustments, for the most part it does not have to be so hard to go green. Simply doing the little things can make a world of difference. For instance, if you live close enough to ride your bike to work, why not go for it? If you have the opportunity to carpool once a week that is a perfect way to reduce the number of vehicle emissions out on the road. Compost your yard waste and food waste instead of sending it out to the landfill. Figure out how to get your name off the junk mail lists so more trees can be spared and so you won't have to sort through so much junk mail every day.
In short, there are a lot of different ways to go green. Make sure that your green habits fit your lifestyle and that they become embedded into your every day schedule. Remember that even the small stuff counts. With millions of people doing the little things, it will soon begin to add up.
