In Serious Need of Advice

You all know by now that I'm in college, not currently working as a result of that, and I'm now coming back for 2 more years because there are just no places to work out there right now. You may also know that my boyfriend has moved back to his hometown hours away in search of a job. He is having no luck at all, and we've completely run out of money.

I've been Gathering, and making enough to pay the credit card bill each month, plus a couple bucks...but it's obviously not cutting it. I know there are people that make a lot more on here daily than I do in a week. I can't upload anything while I'm here at school, so I know that's what's keeping me back. 

I'm thinking though...I gotta do more. I'll be on here as much as possible from now on...and when I'm able to get a ride home on the weekends, I'll upload like crazy.

I do QuickRewards, MyPoints and YouData, but I only do the easy stuff where you don't sign up. Is it worth it to do sign ups? There any trick to it?

(I'm on TreasureTrooper, but they haven't been crediting me for over a week now so it's just wasting my time.)

Where else should I go to make some money...I need all of the advice, suggestions and ideas you've got. If you blog about it, let me know. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it.

I know a few people make money writing on Helium.com but I know nothing about it. I should probably check it out myself. Hope you are able to get some good suggestions.

Snagajob.com is a great employer website ... I have used this website and Toys R Us called me back within 2 days! Not saying it happens fast all the time (but I always had good experience). Its free to sign up for an account and type in zipcode and search for jobs. I love it!

Donating plasma - many people in college do this. Tutor students- get a few extra dollars

Oh...and you can ALWAYS babysit in your free time ! Many parents are in need of babysitters! I would love to pay a college student good money to watch my kids, but the colleges here aren't close

Recycling? It doesn't pay much, but it brings in some money... You can also try selling sodas (if you live in dormitory). A friend of mine did this in dormitoy - 50 cent per soda or $1.00 or sometimes food, if some students don't want to go to the grocery store (haha!). Condoms were sold too (not kidding!) ... It was 50 cent per condom by other students (OK, you may not want to do that one! Laughing)...

You could also take old movies (DVD's), CDs, video games, etc. to Disc Replay. (Not sure if they have one where you live). It is like a game store place and they buy used stuff for magazine value used. Most I have gotten out of a video game was $8 like new (I think it was madden or a football one).

I joined FusionCash recently & got $45 for the month for not doing much of anything at all. People who put a lot of effort into it seem to make good money.

If you can learn to do what the most viewed are doing - the ones that get thousands of hits a day - that's some serious views. Pam Johnston talks about it here, but also read this - even though it's geared toward another site, it covers the basics better for those of us who know/knew nothing about it, ime.

If you learn to optimize that will help you anywhere you write online - eHow, Squidoo, Associated Content, etc. I know eHow and Squidoo both have good advice on how to do well with them, if you search there.

You can also check out Amazon's Mechanical Turk, and this list of work-at-homes on A.C. (Page 3. Most of the legits I've heard about over the years are on there.)

Michelle may be onto something with the selling some stuff... Food & Drink... you can go to BJ's and buy a big package of some snacks that college kids are eating right now and jack up the price a little? line Lean Pockets or granola bars etc.. what eva they would have to walk a half mile to get for more $$, just a thought..

Seriously, I waited tables all during college. It is decent money, and usually short hours --- plus a flexible schedule. I worked at Olive Garden and Chilis and supported myself (rent, car payment, food, clothing, etc...) for 4 or 5 years. It isn't a long term career choice (for most people) but if you are good and friendly (and able to kiss butt a little --- or at least give good customer service) you could make $35k - $50k a year. (I did and worked about 30-35 hours a week). And no offense to the other people that spend a lot of time here on gather but even the people I know that do well on her are only making like $2-$5 per day! WAY BELOW MINIMUM WAGE! So, seriously, the time you spend on gather trying to earn a little here and there could be spent waiting tables and actually making $50 a shift!

I do sign-ups for things i can use, and for things I don't, I have a "junk" e-mail address, where I have them send confirmations. I get in, confirm the sign-ups, and just go on my own way.

My daughters do rewardtv. Also check out bzzagent--not a point site but if you participate you get mypoints for surveys (not usually many--but you get almost 50pts just for doing the ones you sign up for. Then when you get in one of the campaigns you write reports about word of mouth you have done for the product and for each you get mypoints. It's a great place without the mypoints--you just aren't going to get paid anything for it, except for the free products once in a while. There is a gather group bzzagent--check it out.
