Update on My Dog Magic..Please Read!

Well the update is the vet says my dog is too far gone with heart worms and it will kill him. I really don’t know what to do now…just wait for him to die.. I rack my brain why can’t I do anything else. They said because we’re so loaded with mosquitoes they did it to him. I don’t know what else to do, trying to keep my mind off it yet when I look at him it takes everything I can do not to bust out in tears. He’s only 4 will be 5 in May but he may never see that day. There’s no time limit they said he could be great one day dead the next. Makes me want to find something to get rid of all these mosquitoes if anyone has any ideas on what to buy let me know, we have a whole ditch behind us where they breed.

Your best bet is to fill the ditch in, if it's allowed. Anywhere that you have shallow standing water, and a lot of weeds and warm weather, you'll have bugs.

I'll have to check with lanlord because the ditch isn't actually on our property we pay for its just behind it but thanks

Citronella candles and a bug zapper but that will not get rid of them all, since you are around water that brings them in there really not much you can do! Ever thing of moving else where??
Keep the grass trimmed short around the whole yard, but especially after it rains, and around the ditch. There are some products that attach to a hose, and can be sprayed over the grass to keep bugs at bay, but they don't work 100%, they'll just cut back on the population. You can find them in a garden department, like at Walmart, or a home repair store. That'll at least help.

im sorry to hear that about your dog...its so sad :(
try and clear out all the still water around your yard, that's where mosquitos like to hang out, and also citronella candles work pretty well

I would follow Cassandra's advice and find a second opinion ... tho I know its hard and if you are like the rest of us you have to think about budget when you think pet treatments ... it can't hurt to know your options and it will help you deal with the feelings knowing that you are doing all you can ... Since these little buggers also carry West Nile I would be talking to your landlord about the ditch! Also do as others have said keep ALL grass cut short and don't allow water to stand around your home. Good luck and I hope Magic can be helped.

well kind of hard not to let water stand when we're in a county thats a flood zone so I'm not sure filling in the ditch will help much really.
