I'm just not having any luck with phone services! I have hated MagicJack since the day it arrived! I, like many, I'm sure, was awed by the awesome infomercials, announcing that for twenty dollars per year, you could make and receive unlimited phone calls, local and long distance, simply by plugging this magical device into the usb port on your computer. I, quickly, called and gave them my credit card information (I'm not usually one who falls for things like this, but it just sounded SO great!), and agreed to pay $39.99 for the device, receiving my first year free.
Ok, I lived in Oklahoma. When I plugged the MagicJack up and couldn't complete ANY calls, I blamed it on that... maybe their technology just hadn't reached our area yet. So, I decided to call and cancel, WAY before the thirty day grace period ended, so I wouldn't be charged. Well, those monsters (I'm trying to use nice words here!) charged my account immediately, within minutes after I called to cancel, even though, as I stated, the deal was, I wouldn't be charged if I called within the first thirty days.
I called my bank and explained the situation (Bank of America, another company I'm hating). They said they would look into it, and guess what?! Yep, I was stuck with the $39.99 charge, and a piece of junk that didn't work.
Ok, so as most of you know by now, I moved to California a few weeks ago. I decided to give the piece of junk another try, since I had already paid for it and all. Well, it still sucks!!! I can make and receive calls... as long as there is nothing else running on my computer. And I don't have an old junk computer guys... it is the latest and greatest, so it's definitely the MagicJack that's a piece of junk.
Well, yesterday, it started popping up that it's time to renew... guess it's been a year that it's been taking up space in my drawer. I have been thinking about it, going back and forth... it's a piece of junk, but it's $20 per year, and could save me some money on long distance... but i would probably need to set up an individual computer just to run the magic jack. It does, also, have the benefit of being portable... you can take it wherever you go, and just plug it up to make calls. So... even though I've been hearing rumors about them getting ready to go under, and just keep everyone's money, I figured twenty bucks, I may as well... so, I click on the button that takes me to the site. No twenty dollar option there... there's the option to buy a new MagicJack (yeah, right, like I'm gonna do that again!), or pay for five years in advance for like sixty bucks. With the rumors of them flying off in the night, I don't wanna spend sixty bucks, even if I could possibly get five years of free, crappy phone service for it!
I had to get an online rep, who finally told me the secret, hidden way, to renew for twenty bucks. By this time, I should have known better... but... nooooo, that would have been too much like right! lol I gave them my new bank card number. After I submitted, it gave me an error. I checked my bank account, and for some reason, MagicJack took a dollar... I got back on with the rude chat person, who would not explain anything to me, just told me someone was checking into it, so he couldn't access my account, and someone would get ahold of me. That was at about 6:30 a.m. Well, nobody has gotten ahold of me, and they now have my new credit card number... oh, joy! The only thing I can think to do is get ahold of my bank tomorrow and TRY to convince them not to let MagicJack charge anything else, and just throw the darn thing away!!!
Anyway, I hope my warning helps somebody. I know their commercials are appealing... but even $39.99 is too much to pay for the headache, hassle, and piece of junk equipment they are selling. Consider yourself warned!!!

The reason you most likely have not received a call at 6:30am, is because your bank isn't open, so they have no way of verifying information with a person. As for the online chat person, you more likely than not were conversing with a script- a computer program set to answer questions based on triggered key words you sent out, and not give out much other information.
