My daughter lives in the lovely community known as Los Gatos. It is Spanish for "the cats." We lived nearby when she was a little girl and I used to teach preschool there until we moved out of the area. Now I am glad to be able to return and enjoy the town again. Her house is walking distance to town and I took a bunch of photos last Fall of some of the houses on the way.
I'm not as savvy as my esteemed friend, Elizabeth E., in the field of architecture and so this will have to be more of a show than "tell" when it comes to styles. I just love looking at all the different homes and imagining what it would be like to live in them. I also like the variety of old cottages to be seen. Some of them are quite old and were moved from another area that now is a big reservoir. My daughter's house is one of them.
So let's take a tour.

This is one of the largest homes in the area. They go crazy with decorating on Christmas and Halloween. The kids love to trick-or-treat there.

Victorian, right?

I love this garden.

And this one too. This one is now for sale...$$$$$$$$!

The window on this museum has since been repaired and the Bougainvillea is spectacular.

This is a business, not a private home across the street.
I love the bold color on the Spanish style bungalow below.

Lots of details to see in this Victorian.

One of the drawbacks to this neighborhood is a lack of garages. And the plus is the walk to town, of course.

As you can see, I'm attracted to color.

This garden looked less crazy to the naked eye than to the camera. You can see my long haired niece, April, in this picture.

Well, that's all for today. Next time we'll take another route and I'll show you more.

The Victorians are gorgeous - similar but slightly different to New England Victorians. Key West and Provincetown actually have very similar architecture and people, in some ways.
I have never seen Victorians in CA. Obviously, I have not been around that much.
