The Green

I lay trapped beneath the snow

Where for months I'd been laid low

But that curse would not long last

The snow around me melted fast

I rise from the stream cold and wet

Ice melting off in rivulets

I walk slowly through fog and steam

Escaping Winter's frozen dream

The warming sun beams gently down

As I stretch and look around

I smell the coming of the Spring

Calm and quiet in the Green

 

Birds begin to sing and nest

The bear awakens from his rest

I can hear the calming chorus

The magic music of the forest

And listen to the quiet sound

Of flowers sprouting from the ground

Nature's magic surrounds me

Refreshes my mentality

I see beauty all around

As misty rain falls gently down

All is peaceful and serene

Alone and quiet in the Green

Not a big fan of heroic couplets (even if it WAS the original form for opera - which I also don't like), but the imagery was good.
